If you had to buy a computer..
I need to buy a computer put together by someone other than myself.
Who would you order the computer from and why? I am looking for an AMD system. I want to spend between $2500 - $3000 (not including the monitor), so Voodoo an Falcon are out of the question. I'm thinking about having Monarch Computers put something together for me. Any thoughts on Monarch?
I'm open for suggestions.

It's been a long time, 4 years or so, but I had good luck with ABS computers.

I haven't done business with them since 2002, but they did well by me when I ordered a complete system.
So, you have Monarch computers, ABS,... get a few more from this thread and then start comparing them head to head.
BTW, the reason I liked ABS, besides price and component quality, was the little things. Good quality case and PS, very nice cable management, nice packaging of documentation, etc.

will the computer be primarily used for gaming?

Primarily for business, but also for gaming. I can write it off as a business expense.
I am currently using an ABS system, which has performed very well the last few years. The only problem I have with ABS is the lack of control over the parts. I want to pick EVERY SINGLE piece that goes into the system. I will go back and look at ABS since I haven't been to their site in several months.

I was beginning to think I was the only person to ever buy from ABS, you never really hear them mentioned outside of magazine reviews.

ABS used to be big. Do you remember when the computer shopper was 1" thick (or more)? ABS would take out an ad that took 10 PAGES!! Wow, how much did that cost??
I think ABS is a great company. I recommend it to my friends. They just don't have the customization I'm looking for right now.

If you want to pick all the parts, do what I'm doing...
I bought all the parts from Newegg, picked a recommended/reputable PC repair place, and they are going to build it for me. They will put everything together, load the OS/drivers, and tweak it the way I like it.
The charge?? A "C" Note
For $2500 bucks, you could build a sweet ass system!!
I only spent $1200 on mine, and I would consider it top of the line.
Good luck!!

Yeah, it's a chunk of change. A high end CPU and video card(s) will really set you back.
If I knew any local guys that could overclock/builid a system, then I would probably have it done locally.

I could build a computer, as I have built several; but I want someone else to build it. Let's just pretend I'm too stupid to build one, so I need a company to build it for me. If this were the case, what company would you recommend? I live in Tennessee. I would prefer a company outside of TN so I don't have to pay sales tax. Our sales tax is currently 9.75%.
I'm just looking for recommendations for a good computer company. There are a lot of companies out there. Maybe I'm overlooking a good one. Any suggestions are appreciated.

This site looks pretty good, and reasonable too. I built a PC with all the bells, and whistles for $3111.
That included a AMD FX 55 CPU, with dual 7800 GTX running SLI;)
Too bad, it wasn't for real...

Good site Mortimer. I only wish I had a few more choices on the RAM, a sound card, DVD drive and speakers. I thought the prices were good too.
I may give them a call to see if I have any other options besides the one they have listed.

Antonius,
Thanks for the links. I'm really close to ordering from Monarch. Anyone here ever order a computer or parts from Monarch?
