Two Monitor's crapped out in one week any ideas.
I have a Dell 4600. 17" flatpanel. The whole thing is over a year and a half old. Last week I went to bring my pc out of sleep mode. The monitor never came back on. The power flased on and off for it.(little green light in front of monitor went green, off, green, off etc.) No pic just a flicker. even when unpluged from pc. Now dell replaced that one with another. I got it tuesday. Used it for three days. Turned pc on this monring and the same thing happened.
Any ideas?
Specs-
pent 4 2.8 300mz
1.5 gig pc2700 PNY ram
geforce 6600gt 128mb
stock dell power supply.
O and yes I am trying to call Dell. I was just on the phone with them and told them the situation. She said she would be back in a minute. I hung up 15 minutes later never hearing a thing from them.
I guess I will call back in a minute.
added: Well Dell is sending me a third one.
I hope it last longer then three days. I am also hopeing it is not my pc in any way. Ihave a 15" full size monitor hooked up now and it seems to be working fine.

Any ideas?

That's odd. Not in my realm of experience but I would say either you just got unlucky - twice, or maybe you have some power issues. Like.. power spikes. I'm assuming you have it on a surge protector? Maybe the surge protector is bad if that's the case?
Anyone else have an idea?

PraiseA||ah I hope I am just unlucky twice. Yes I am on a surge protecter. I did have an electrical storm a few days before the first one crapped out.. My house power flicked off then on. I will get a new strip this weekend. Thats a start.
I agree Hat. I am not gonna hook up the third one untill I figure this out. But if I can't find anything and this 15" fullsize works for a week or so. Then I will just have to hook it up and hope.
Flipp, I got owned by you. Who's not telling the truth here.

Is there anyway that a graphics card can cause this?
or the AGP slot itself?
I am useing a 15" fullsize for now. And it seems to be acting up. I hear a click like it wants to shut off and the screen flicks when I hear the click. I have tried two graphics cards. Both agp and I get the same flicker with both. It happens every few minutes

Yes an extended out of frequency out put can damage the digital translator in an LCD and a fly-back in a CRT. It's not that it's too much power just the frequency is to high for the electronics to handle and the harmonics "break" the circuits.
The question is do you have a screen saver or something else that would increase the REFRESH rate too high? most LCD can not handle over 75hertz . However, It should take hours of being over frequency to damage a monitor I've found.
As for the AGP, unless there is a actual hardware flaw this should not occur.

What's your refresh rate?
