For each of these unknown processes, do a Google search. Searching for Teatimer.exe reveals that " TeaTimer.exe is a process belonging to Spybot's search and destroy series of programs which scans and monitors processes in real time for malicious spyware. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.". So if you use Spybot, don't remove this.

Did killing acrobat have an effect?

There are so many programs that stay resident when you don't need the damn things. It seems like every single programmer/company thinks their program needs to be ready to go NOW even if you don't use the program but once a month at best. Acrobat is a good example, so are quicktime, EA's downloader, etc.. etc.
I think you'll find out that a decent portion of that overhead is from your anti programs. Anti spyware, adware and virus.

I could bring myself down from my average 36 processes running to 20 processes running if I turned off/closed everything I'm using right now..

That's the major gripe I have with my pc over my mac is the way stupid shit installs itself without asking you or setting get changed. Take for example video players: at the momment I think I have 5 or 6 different video players, which is fine. What's not fine however is that every time I update one of the little buggers they fuck with my settings and try to make themselves the default player. Now obviously with some they ask you (not that you will always notice as they throw so many irrelevant questions at you that you get used to clicking yes and do it by accident) but some of them don't even ask you. The same deal with tool bars for IE, if I wanted the damn MSN toolbar I'd ask for it; stop trying to trick me into using it you devious weasly little capitalist fucks!

I hate that shit it's so pathetic it makes me sick into my own scorn. The mac was so much better, mostly cos there was only one of any program that worked on the mac

right parrott, ya gotta be careful and not just hit next next next, otherwise all your file associations are screwed and you definately have a new toolbar that you didnt want.

I have 40 processes with just 2 internet windows open and email. My pc runs great on 768mb of ram. If you get yourself a router to add onto your network you wont have to run all that spyware crap all the time, you can just scan once a day or once a week. That might help your performance....

Maybe some of you old timers remember Black Viper. He was king of removing unwanted Windows programs. He spent hours and hours figuring out what every program did and whether it was necessary. He stripped his windows machine down until only the necessary programs were loaded.

One more thing. I agree with Lord ZOG. GET HIJACK THIS! There are a couple of websites out there where people will help you decipher your list of programs. (I've used it myself to get rid of an extremely tenacious (sp) virus). Hijack This is a GREAT program. Highly recommended. (especially if you have someone that can help you with it) Hijack This shows all the programs you are currently running.

Most Spyware preys on your ignorance (no offense). Believe me, you don't need 1/3 of the crap your PC initially comes loaded with. Even brand new Dell machines come pre-loaded with questionable "Spyware-like" applications.

Using HiJackThis, you can disable almost everything it reports, and your PC will still run. Of course you may end up disabling your Anti-Virus (which, honestly doesn't seem to be doing shit on your system anyway), but your machine will still run.

HiJackThis also allows you to "re-enable" anything you choose to disable. The only problem is that it doesn't hunt down and delete the obvious files causing your problems, it only stops them from running.

Some crap just re-enables itself. Today's viruses\spyware are often not just one file, but a suite of files that can monitor themselves and download\re-activate anything you disable. If you don't spot each and every file causing the problem, it all comes back.

Sure, reformatting and re-installing Windows would solve the problems, but in 99% of the cases I deal with I can repair a hosed Windows system without resorting to reformatting.

I had a virus once that even reformating didn't remove. (Hell, multiple reformats didn't help!). I had to reformat the master boot sector. (Format /mbr or something like that).

I've helped several people restore their computers that have been severely corrupted by viruses and spyware/adware. Sometimes it's better to do a fresh format. Yeah, you could spend hours and hours removing all the malware, but sometimes its simply better to reformat. If it's been over a year (or two) a format would do wonders for your system.

I strongly belive in starting with a solid foundation (reformat/clean install) and building up from there. Either way it will take several hours. I'm not saying a format is necessary in this instance. I'm just saying reformating is an option. Always make sure to back up any important data before reformating.

Try HiJack This first. Then run all your virus scans and spyware scans with the latest updates. Perhaps you could find a website to help you with your problem (I did). If all else fails, a fresh format will most likely solve your problems.

First off, Norton SUCKS, get AVG.
Run that and if it cannot heal/delete your problems write them down and go google searches for them.
Get Ad-Aware it is the best thing for preventing very bad things from happening(especially after perusing porn for four straight hours).

Only use HIJACKTHIS with someone who knows what they are doing. HIJACKTHIS can and will kill your operating system if you tell it to.

Well when I checked my task manager it wasn't there this time...I did however check all of the big memory users and every single one of them were either antispyware programs or parts of windows opperating system...Maybe I should try defragmenting my harddrive and that stuff?...But the last time I did that it was unable to fix alot of stuff it was red...

Iv seen alot of parrots posts about macs...Are they better overall you think? I mean I think they pretty much can do the same things normal pcs can...Other than the fact they have a shorter amount of game titles to play on them..Are they less suseptable to viruses and slowing down then normal windows computers? Iv heard from kids that alot of the colleges recomend them over standard windows computers for some reason? All I would really need from a laptop for college would be Internet, Music, A good word proccesing, database, and excel and I think I would be good...Maybe have some gaming but its not needed...i have 2 years anyways to prepare for what I'm going to need to get for college....

I know what ya mean, my Dell computer i ordered came pre-loaded with the My Way Search Assistant toolbar that i am unable to delete, and even if i could delete i'm afraid it might have itself embedded into other programs and cause a system crash or something.
