Pink panther

Postby Alofwar » Fri Feb 10, 2006 12:36 pm

I want to know if this is popular in america, with the release of the new film soon. I read a review by an american and he was saying it was bad for the reasons that i think make it funny.

"Don't mention the war"

German Tourist: Will you stop mentioning the war

Basil: Well you started it

German tourist: No we didn't

Basil: Yes you did, you invaded Poland

I think remaking that with Steve 'I'm not fuvking funny' Martin is a travesty. It's bad enough he fucked Bilko in tha ass he has to move onto the Pink Panther. If he was actually funny himself he would have to keep stealing better peoples routines...

But yes the Peter Sellers originals were pure genius.

Being a big Pink Panther fan and owning all the movies, I have to agree that remaking any of them would disrespect Peter Sellers.

Its a shame a real shame.... :(

Steve Martin is a FUNNY FUNNY man in his own right. He had some funny and original movies, not to mention his stand-up and Saturday Night Live days.

The Jerk has some great quotes I just love.

Having said all that, I too have reservations about this role. I'll wait to pass judgement until I see it though.

Jaimz Woolvett (The Schofield Kid): Yeah, well, I guess he had it comin'.

Yeah Steve Martin can be funny, but I just don't see the need for anyone to do another Pink Panther. Truth be told, somethings are just better left in their era.

The Jerk is 25 years ago, it's been all downhill since then. no-one can tell me anything he's done in the last 10 years has been even remotely funny. In fact here's my quick review on some of his more recent films:

Sgt. Bilko (1996) Phil silvers' Bilko was a God, Martin's was a flop...

The Prince of Egypt (1998) (voice) Didn't even notice him in it. Awful, awful disney wannabe film.

The Out-of-Towners (1999) Oh holy mother of god had to sit through 2 times on the flight to Sydney (24hrs on the plane, never could sleep on planes). Wanted to gouge my eyes out in sheer despair at just how bad this film was.

Bowfinger (1999) Nice idea, I like Eddie Murphy. Horrible execution. I can't remember what it was about but I remember I didn't like it.

Joe Gould's Secret (2000) Who? What? Straight to video?

Bringing Down the House (2003) Actually did gouge out my eyes in despair and horror. Scariest fucking film I've ever seen. Not funny though.

Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003) Yay look how much money we spent just to have everyone say how much better 'Who framed roger rabbit' was...

Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) No power on earth could make me watch it. Thankfully I already removed my eyes with a spoon watching BDtH so I'm safe

Meat Pie (2005) Never seen it but his character name ( Oofta-Poofter #2) pretty much says it all. Next please.

Shopgirl (2005) Looks like it could have been a good film if he hadn't decided to start in it himself. Haven't seen it, won't be rushing out to fill the void either.

Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005) Another attempt to get the laugh the first one failed to bring out of me. Won't be watching this either.

The Pink Panther (2006) Should never have been allowed. Will never be worthy to lick clean the originals soiled underwear...

I love Steve Martin. I do admit though, his prime was many years ago. "The Jerk", "Planes, Trains", "Dead Men Dont Wear Plaid", "The Lonely Guy".. Were his best. Along with his stand up and SNL stuff. His stand up album "A Wild and Crazy Guy" was hilarious for it's time and groundbreaking.

If he had died 20 years ago I'd probably be calling him a legend. He's dragged his average so far down though.

I haven't seen the movie, but I think Steve Martin is the perfect choice. Who else is as clumsy a bubble headed buffon as Steve Martin?

The the movie will still suck, but Steve Martin seems to be the guy for the part.

BTW. It's playing in town tonight for $3. I almost took the family to see it.

20 years ago Chevy Chase was funny but year before last he was the voice of the karate dog in a film of the same name

When LAPD computer expert Peter Fowler investigates the killing of an old man in Chinatown, he finds the only witness is his dog, Cho Cho. But Fowler soon discovers Cho Cho is the only dog in the world who can speak to humans... not only that, Cho Cho is an expert in martial arts. When they join forces to track down the mastermind behind the death of Cho Cho's master, it leads these unusual partners into uncovering a dangerous conspiracy which puts both of their lives in danger.

So I gues what I'm trying to say is...times change.
