A.J. has what seems natural leadership among his peers. He has a head for money - remember the party he threw, charged admission for and had his friends to back him up? That's something that isn't uncommon -I've done that part myself but then add in the Family to that and the legacy he has to live up too and you might be able to get a future boss. He needs to become hardened though - shooting someone would be the thing to do that I believe.

Clint Eastwood (Munny): Hell of a thing, killin' a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
Jaimz Woolvett (The Schofield Kid): Yeah, well, I guess he had it comin'.
Clint Eastwood (Munny): We all got it comin', kid.

Right on about Meadow, she thinks she is queen shit. I see AJ becoming a reckless loose cannon now that he flunked out of school.
Last nights episode was a snoozer but they are setting it up to see how all the pieces fall into place now that they have to re-assign responsibilities.

I wasn't bothered by the show's pace last night. It was like a gourmet meal, I just enjoyed watching Gandolphini play Tony as the regular Joe, a cog in the machine, and the what a contrast it was to the normal Tony Soprano: $87 to his name, powerless, unable to overcome a lost wallet, couldn't cheat on his wife etc. Leading up to getting bitch slapped by a couple of Buddists! Every scene it was like 'What would the real Tony Soprano do in this case?
I loved the stuff with the FBI agents and Christopher --it always cracked me up in the past when the lead agent would bring the new agents to meet Tony Soprano as though they were all friends or business associates!

I still don't see AJ as anything but a cross to bear for Tony. He's dim-whitted and weak. He pissed his pants and fainted at the thought of having to leave his cushy home life for Military School. He hasn't shown one iota of common sense or business thinking, or the ability to garner respect.
Tony, in his youth, at least looked up to his father. He seemed to learn that there were repercussions for his actions. AJ is brainless. If he were to cap Junior, I guarantee it would be a bungled, ham-fisted fiasco, similar to what got Jackie Aprile, Jr. killed.
As far as Meadow; I can understand money influencing her life decisions and actions but everytime I think she's turning a corner and at least understanding her family's business she reverts back to her spoiled-brat, socialite, Holier-than-thou act. She seems so quick to criticize and belittle everyone (even 2nd guessing Tony's doctor's choice of anti-biotics!!), but is short on real-world answers. She's a self-absorbed, self-centered drama queen.
I agree with cavalierlwt's take on "the real-world Tony", unable to display the real Tony's power and demand for respect even when slapped by some timid religious freak.
It made me remember a line Tony used from Season 1 or 2 when he was torturing some stubborn Jewish guy in someone's attic. The Jewish guy was resisting vehemently, defiantly asking Tony "Remember what became of the Romans!?"
Tony smartly responded, "You're looking at them, pal."

I still never saw season 1 and 2, one of these days.....
Right AJ will maybe try to be a gangster but have no idea what to do so he will just be a reckless loose cannon. Yeah when that indian guy slapped him i was waiting for Tony to grab him and beat his ass.

Dialogue like that is one the reasons why this show is just pure genious!

If you remember, the FBI agents were talking to Christopher about terroist/suspicius people. Chris said he didn't know of any, yet later during the show the 2 middle east guys at the bar. I thought that was funny.

Uh... they weren't suspicious. Just being Middle Eastern isn't grounds for being suspicious. Like he said, the other guy was a drug dealer not a terrorist. Those guys didn't look like extremists either.

I just had a thought... What if Carmella or Meadow were to assume power in Tony's stead? Whether or not he dies.. He'll need rehabilitation and will need someone to stand in for him. Unless of course they skip all that time - and yes, I'm overlooking the obvious Capo's on purpose.

Here's another question I have, which probably means absolutely nothing, but hey text is cheap (just ask Buli);
In Tony's dream, we see and hear him talking to his "family" on the phone but do we know it's Carmella, Meadow or AJ he's talking to/about? He never mentions their names.

It is strange because although he refers to himself as Tony Soprano, no one else in the dream does that I can remember.

It sounds like a totally reworked or made up version of his real family on the phone. I wouldn't say his dream wife wears the pants in the family, but Tony definitely doesn't dominate her the way he does with Carmella. Gandolfini is such a great actor, just to see the different look in his eyes between his dream world persona (tired, beat down) to the way he looks normally as Tony Soprano: kind of dull and stupid, but underneath it a very shrewd understanding of people and what drives them. You can just see the gears turning in his mind.

His "wife" on the other end is Chris's girlfriend...Adrianna listen close....you can hear her accent......back in the day....remember he said she would make a great wife, so its his life if he married her, and the off spring they produced
just a regular Joe.....is what he is.....just like he always wanted......just to become a regular Itallian living a normal life
