"-Miami-based Alienware was founded in 1996 by Nelson Gonzalez and Alex Aguila, two childhood friends. They will continue to run the company as a standalone unit of Dell, Dell said.-"
After reading this. It doesn't seem like it will affect much.

As someone who works in a large company that has gobbled up other smaller companies all I can say is give it time. Things always change.

I am not sure if it included surrendering. The owners sold to Dell meaning they won a big chunck of money. I like that battle plan.

I guess the old adage applies: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
I'm afraid lesser quality parts will start to show up in Alienware machines now.
I also wonder if this means the end of the XPS series.
Not a big fan of this move even though I've never bought an Alienware rig.

Yeah I think that Alienware made this move so that they would have a wealthy backer. I mean maybe they weren't doing to well in sales, so instead of dumping the company they figured they would sell it so they can still make them. Also since the owners are still there I would think that they will still have quality machines.

As for Alienware continuing on unchanged, consider this: Dell, even with their size and volume pricing, decided to buy Alienware, rather than compete. If Dell had wanted to compete on a level playing field, tit for tat, they could have made machines with the same specs as Alienware, and even made a better profit due to their size and buying power. They didn't take that route, perhaps they don't feel it's profitable enough. So, I'm just guessing, but I'd say Dell will water down Alienware until their specs are more in line with Dell's. It must be cheaper or more profitable to lower the bar instead of matching them.

If I'm owning Alienware and Dell comes knocking and says they're going to give me millions of dollars IN CASH and let me keep my high-paying job to boot....fuck all y'all, I'm on that shit like Oprah on a baked ham.
Money makes the world go around, and when someone throws a few million (or hundred million) dollars at you, I think most of us would take it, too.

Agreed! I think thats why they did it, mainly for money and to have dell help advertise for them.
