Maybe it shoots confetti at the rpg. They use language describing it which means nothing in the real world. FOX does it's usual bang-up job of confusing the news in it's delivery. 'Virtual force field' is not the same thing as a force field. Something solid seems to be shot at the rpg in a stream (beam) of fragments. They say there is a ballistic trajectory to intercept the targets. It would make sense to me if the response were triggered by the speed and size of an approaching object. With the computational power available in smaller and smaller packages it's no wonder they can squeeze these systems into tanks and rpgs. How long until they can have systems that will detect something as small as a bullet and have enough time to harden the specific area it's going to hit on infantry clothing? Neat stuff.

Without watching the vid, i saw on the history channel about the weirdest weapons of WWII and one of them was a death ray... which was essentially a high powered microwave. The two options for Japan at the time was that or the Atom bomb which they deemed "not probable"

I think it's a high tech shotgun controlled by radars and a computer. A couple fragments hit the RPG and disable it so that it doesn't detonate properly.

In Iraq we had a radar that would detect incoming mortar/rocket rounds and tell us from exactly where it was being shot from. But, it didnt blow up the incoming fire or anything. And when it was detected, its usually a little bit too late to warn anybody about it.
Its like the movement from wood to steel in warships, when the first "Ironclad" ships appear they still had old cannons, which couldnt even dent another ironclad ship. So in order to overcome a new defence, a new weapon was divised, the shell shooting guns tat have been used since. This is the same situtaion, so once this so called "force shield" is in wide spread use, and it can protect against current weapons, a new weapon that will make it pointless will be invented. And so the cycle goes on.
