I'll take a swing at the Patriot.
Why the cliche where the Good Guy and the Bad Guy *personally* must meet on the battlefield, no matter how large the battlefield? That fact that the head British bad guy wound up personally fighting Mel Gibson was the same old, done to death cliche. If my my memory serves me right, they pulled off that even worse cliche: the Good Guy getting the upper hand just as it looks like he's going to lose, has a chance to kill the bad guy, but decides against it, to be 'the better man'
Then suddenly the Bad Guy repays this act of kindess by trying to sneakily backstab the Good Guy, who then (justly) kills the Bad Guy.

cav gives a few good points there. it is full of cliches.

Editing the movie. Why the hell are there 'dramatic slow downs' during the battle scenes. The camera angles(shot from the ground pointed up), is this a freaking Micheal Bay want to be(that type of shot is in all his movies)?

it is a watered down/dumbed down action movie by a horrible director, Roland Emmerich. He did one original movie(Stargate), the rest are crap. Independence Day? Godzilla? Universal Soldier? Day After Tomorrow? All CRAP. Patriot belongs with those shitty ass movies.

Good movies in the same genre(US military history) are We Were Soldiers and Glory.
