It's been known for a long time that North Korea is the real threat. We should have settled that matter rather than going to war in Iraq. Pretty much every lie about why we went to war with Iraq is actual fact when applied to North Korea.

Military action is not likely. It may be too late for that even if the U.S. wanted to. Harsh sanctions are more probable but even then, if NK gets desperate and starts to crumble from the sanctions, it may launch or threaten missle strikes as a last ditch hurrah. So are even harsh sanctions the way to go here?

What can you do? Countries want nukes, and countries will get nukes. There's no stopping it. Iran will follow shortly, then Egypt is next. Eventually everyone who wants one will have one.
IMHO, start working on nuclear detection technology, and anti-missile technology, find ways to protect the hell out of our borders. You can't put the genie back in the bottle, it was just a matter of time. Let's face it, when countries like Pakistan and India can develop the bomb, pretty much anyone can.

The only country that can do anything really effective is China. North Korea gets 70% of its food and power from China, other than it has no trade dependence on the rest of the world. But we all know China won't do that.

Basically it is all going to kick off sooner or later, and its better sooner so that NK doesnt get too many nukes and have the chance to sellt he technology to anyone, which we know they will.
