I loved RTW, one of my favourite games ever.
I just loved certain tacitcs soo much. Like twin lines of Spartans, where 1 line would advance forwards to engage the enemy, whilst the second would advance forwards, but in backwards ranks to cover against flanking.
What i really did hate, was the impossibilty to impliment tactics that would work brilliantly in the real world, in the game. Liek the way that if your oppenent massed all their cavalry in one group they can smash into 1 of your flanks and unless you mass all your cavalry against them, they will wipe you out. When what would happen in the real world is that you would be able to hold off that mass of cavalry (which wouldnt be done) with a portion of your cavaly and maybe some infantry, and then use the rest of yours in a flanking stratergy.
Now look, you made me go off on a rant!!!
I liked the original medieval total war, but was never anywhere as much a fan as i was of RTW and i doubt i will like the new one as much as RTW, i just have a real love of Roman warfare.
And the Alexander add was a good on, but was so much easier than the original game. Because of the nature of the campaign, it allowed to not think to much about what you had already conquered, you just charged in, sacked the city and moved on in the shortest space of time. The best thing to do was each time you moved to take a city create weak units, (like the most basic phalanx or cavalry) and have them move into the new city just after you've taken it to allow you main force to swiftly move on to the next.
The next trick, was that every 4 or 5 cites there was one that was much more developed and you could use as a stop point to replenish your main force and build up strength for another big push.

German Tourist: Will you stop mentioning the war
Basil: Well you started it
German tourist: No we didn't
Basil: Yes you did, you invaded Poland

i also am hearing of another demo coming out for it. apperantly because the first one was leaked they had to rush it out and they've had some issues. the new one comes with another battle or something. no ETA on it yet.
