http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070123/ap_on_re_us/flight_tantrum

that last line gets me....
"The Orlando-based carrier reimbursed the family $595.80, the cost of the three tickets, and the Kuleszas flew home the next day.

They also were offered three roundtrip tickets anywhere the airline flies, Graham-Weaver said.

The father said his family would never fly AirTran again."

So they got the flight home for free? PLUS 3 tickets ROUNDTRIP for anywhere the airline goes....?
christ... what a deal, and he's being all pissy.

I made a flight home from the Bahamas with my two year old daughter and it was one of the toughest and most trying times of my life. With children there is rarely ever a single one shot solution to stop whatever has escalated out of control, trust me. You learn to divert and avoid trouble spots. However sometimes you have to go and a flight is one of those times.

The old adage about walking a mile in a mans shoes would apply here. Our solution was no more air travel until she's about 5 or so :D

Well no more for her anyways, we went to Mexico a few months ago and enjoyed the peace and quiet... alot :D

good point Havoc, children can be very difficult for even the best parents.

I guess my biggest thing is that he is so mad with the airline. which I think most of it stems from him being embarrassed. They have rules to follow, everyone must be seated and belted for takeoff. So they could give them time, at the expense of inconveniencing everyone else on the plane. Causing some to miss their connecting flights etc. Or they could put those three people off, only inconveniencing them instead of hundreds.

That alone should be enough to make the dad understand and not be pissed off a the airline. On top of that they were refunded their money, flown home the next day, and given three free round trip tickets...And he is still pissed off. Some people you just can't make happy...

Maybe money isn't everything to them? Maybe not waiting who knows how long to get a return flight just isn't worth a few free flights and might, just possibly, prevent the father from ever dealing with them again?

IMO their kid was being a little shit. If the parents can't control the kid. Why should I have to suffer? Fawk them and THEIR worries of connecting flights. I'm in MY seat strapped in, ready to go. I think their would of been more hell to pay for 100+ passengers who miss their connecting flights/appointments than the one bitch of a husband who can't admitt his kid shouldnt of been flying.

I agree the flight had to leave and they probably did all they could for the family. I also agree the father was being a little pissy. As I mentioned kids rarely ever comply. You don't just snap your fingers and little johnny gets his head out of his a$$ and sits down, especially with a three year old.

The gentleman will need to simply avoid those situations until his kids are old enough to control themselves without outbursts. I know some adults that can't do that so hopefully they're able to assist their children in growing out of it sooner rather than later.

On another note if you want trouble free flights without the hassle of others then you might want to charter a flight, because people, not just children can always throw a wrench into it. That's just life.

What I find amusing is the comments in this thread. You can tell those who don't have children. You hear it on tv all the time. If it isn't the games or movies that ruins children then it's the parents. I'll tell you from almost a decade of raising kids that there is only so much you can do as a parent. They are their own people and we are simply guides along the way. Try to change them and you'll get a real surprise.

flown with my 2 boys 3 or 4 times already, IMO if you are prepared it should go pretty much ok. I mean they are twin boys, constantly running around the house and active and we have had no problems flying to FLA and CALI (4 hour flight)with them.

We bring lots of activities, and let em watch movies on my laptop and we have been fine everytime, hardly even a peep out of em.

I'm not saying every kid is alike but if they wold have at least strapped her in, the plane could have taken off right? There's no law against a crying annoying kid being on a flight right?

The article says "Julie and Gerry Kulesza, who were headed home to Boston on Jan. 14 from Fort Myers, said they just needed a little more time to calm their daughter, Elly.

15 minutes you cant calm the kid down???? Strap her in the seat and give her something real to cry about, a sore ass. Sorry but I am old school, I dont discipline as much as my dad did but i do discipline more than some parents. IMO too many parents give kids an easy pass to act like little turds.

We take the boys out to dinner all the time and hardly ever does a dinner go by where we dont get a compliment from someone near us saying how well behaved they are.

now when we get home it is sometimes a different story, but when we are in public and I am there, they behave cuz they know if they dont that ass is gonna be redder than a tomato.

I dont know if the video link works.. its on CNN right now... they did a little interview with the family.... CNN fails to mention the plane waited 15 MINUTES for them to buckle the child they DID home the next day, and got FREE tickets.
