Planet of the Apes coming!!

Chimps have been seen using sharpened spears to hunt. Soon the tribes using spears will kick other tribes asses, and then all chimps will use spears, then they'll develop bow and arrows, guns, digital watches and nukes.
In the off chance they do manage to advance ahead of us, I just want to state publicly: I personally welcome our new simian overlords. :P

Interesting stuff though.

What do you mean NEW Simian overlords? Hasn't there been one in the USA for the past 6 years? :P

Seriously though, when chimp activily chases and throws or stabs the spear into an animal then i may start hailing simian overlords, poking a stick into a random hole with the hope of getting lucky is not hunting. (It does however sound like a good night out :P)

Our simian overlord can't use a tool, but I will say he *is* a tool.
I would guess that sharpening the stick before poking it into the hole would qualify it as hunting. These things take time. It mentions that male chimps don't do it because they use their size and strength. How long before the females start to realize Female+sharp stick=kick male chimp's ass. That's when the fun starts.

"Perhaps even more intriguing, it was only the females who fashioned and used the wooden spears"

Most Intriguing indeed. They actually make them with intent to use them to kill. Crazy females, wait till a male steps out of line. I can here the female chimp now, "Get her to sew that"

I once saw a bumper sticker on a car that said "Evolution is Science Fiction"

I laughed at it. Turns out, they really believed it

hey i just rewatched 2001 & 2010 back to back a couple weeks ago!! Good flicks. It's weird how 2010 had more of a political, cold war theme that dominated the plot. Sign O' the times I guess, huh?

interest news about these chimps.. i have seen specials where they used twigs to reach into trees/logs to pull them out covered in termites to eat..
