How often do you defrag harddrive

I just ran defrag and my drive was terribly fragmented.

You forgot the "When I feel like defragging" option

About once every month. My HD doesn't really get fragged much though since I keep my OS/system files in one partition, apps/games in another and personal/misc files another partition. I use Diskeeper, so defragging takes about 15 mintues and works helluva lot better than M$'s build in defragging app.

i usully defrag about once a month because if i wait longer then that it gets too screwed up and takes too long to defrag

Usually once every week to ensure smooth peformance. I do a disk check for bad sectors about once a month as well.

Once a month keeps me running smooth, now that i think about it i should be defraging soon might as well start it now

I run Norton Utils once a week on both my systems. Gotta keep them running clean and Speed Disk seems to do a better job then the microshyt defrag.

....Usually when I notice it running a bit slow I defrag it, or if I have done alot of downloads and installs I will defrag it then.

Once a month - if you have XP and do it too frequently, it can actually interfere with XPs drive optimization strategy.

I Do once a month. But it would depend on how often you add and remove programs. I remember using Win98 and me and being transfixed on watching the drive defrag. Wow memories.

Aye, same with I. Once a month.
I have 2 physical HDDs, one 60GB(5 partitions) and one 80GB (4 partitions).
I usually defrag the 3GB Windows partition every 3 weeks on the 60GB HDD. Same goes for Program Files partition which is also 3GB on the 60GB HDD. I also have a 1GB partition dedicated to the main huge swap file and Temporary Internet Files, which gets defragged weekly.
