Sounds like he was testing security. Maybe he's just crazy, maybe he's part of something bigger. There was an incident not too long ago where a guy poured some mercury on the floor at a subway station, then quickly walked away. Once again, it looked like a test of security's reaction. I don't know how the subway thing turned out, I never saw anything in the news about it afterwards.
