Ever build A PC?
Well, my system is getting fairly tired. And i'm wondering if I could save money building one myself. I'm a little nervous in doing so since I'm limited with computer parts and configurations. This is one that I could buy of the shelf and is about what i'm looking for proformance wise.
Genuine Windows Vista(TM) Home Premium
AMD Athlon(TM) 64 X2 4200+ dual-core - 2.2GHz
2GB DDR2-533MHz dual channel SDRAM (2x1024)
160GB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive
LightScribe 16X DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive
NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS
19" LCD Monitor
Shipped is $929.00
Any suggestions? I'm uncertain on what to do. $900.00 is alot of money :/

I agree, small HD, that is massive expensive, you could built that config for about 500 bucks, its easy, you have to learn someday, remember the first time you learned to change oil, toke me about 2 hours to teach myself, now i do in about 10 minutes

Re: Ever build A PC?
The price doesn't sound unreasonable, depending on the model of components. Typing all those specs into newegg game me about the same, and dell came out more expensive.
Physically putting together a pc isn't really very hard, and if you want to do it there's lots of information available on the net. Finding compatible components and driver issues can be a real pain though. If you're thinking of trying it yourself, read up in advance.

Ok thank you. I know the hard drive is small, but I have a 80gig now and its not even half full. All I do is some graphic work and some games. Yes Chicken Dell is overpriced IMO also. Along with Mac and Alienware. I know on Ebay there is barebone pc's for cheap. Being Cheap I mean $300 - $400.00. All you need for them is an OS. Maybe thats the way to go. Everything is already done and I would have a custom case. Thanks for the reply's. Example

Be very careful if you buy on E-bay! I know some people who have had problems getting computer stuff on there!

Re: Ever build A PC?
Drop Vista, you don't want a new OS and a new PC at the same time. When your new rig works fine, you can always get Vista. maybe it will be debugged by then. Besides, Vista adds nothing important to XP, it's mostly eye candy.

Re: Ever build A PC?
Have I ever built a PC, No but I bet I could take one apart real easy.
O and two hours to change oil. That's long even for a first time. Maybe if you are blind and deaf.
What did it take you an hour and forty five minutes to find the oil filter.

Re: Ever build A PC?
puting a pc together is easy . all of the plugs will only fit the socket there desined for.when it is put together take it to your local pc shop and have them install os.that way if you think you made a mistake they can fix it.so it shoudn't cost much.

More like 45minutes to figure out which way to turn the oil filter.

I would also suggest going to Newegg.com for parts.
The specs from the first post look ok, except for the drive. I'd go at least 250GB or more. You may not need it today, but...
And, I'd switch out that video card. Get something in the 7900 series. Even the 7900GS will give better results than the 7300.
I just built a new rig in November, I can give you a parts list if you would like. I spent around $1000 back then. Should be able to do it much cheaper today. it plays BF2, BF2142, WoW, EQ2, and anything else I throw at it. Although, I found it's better to install the game than throw it at the computer.
Physically putting it together is not that tough. Mentally putting it together, could take longer.
