Re: School: Pirates are not welcome
People have this idiotic assumption that teachers are supposed to regulate everything a child learns... not the PARENTS. I have a ton of friends who are teachers and the horror stories that i hear are insanely ludicrous.
And this kid's argument for his freedom of speech and religion is like him saying he has the right to assemble on someone else's private property.
I swear every fucking person who wishes to become an American citizen should have to take a test, regardless of where they are born and/or where they live.
Of course half of those numbskulls would want GOD to be put somewhere on their test for the Amendments and the other half wouldn't. They'd bitch at each other for being less American than them too.

Good point here. You could pretty much ban everything if you think about it.

Yep save stripping kids naked, wrapping them in bubblewrap and sending them into giant inflateable bouncy castle style schools to read those padded bath books you get for really small kids, you aren't gonna be able to make them safe.
You can ban as much stuff as you think necessary and it's still not gonna stop the lunatics. Better idea to try and fix the problem for the future than try and temporarily plaster over the holes in the present.

Re: School: Pirates are not welcome
When i went to school 35+yrs ago you had none of this crap ,no body had guns and the like although we some did have a small pocket knife but not to stab someone, some had purses, some had large bags to carry books and some had backpacks, all were totally acceptible, you could go to your locker between classes, hell you could even go out front and smoke(high school)the only real problem was drugs-not shootings ,stabings and the like. How the times have changed and not for the better either.Give me the good old days when society was much mor laid back and less crap.

Speaking of school and what they need to teach; schools should stop with some of those pointless diversity classes and the like. Why not teach something more relevant like Personal Finance Management? Don't give some BS about that being a parent's job because I can tell you that most people have no clue what to do with their money, how to spend it or even what to invest in.

It's the most nonsensical 'solution' to a problem I have ever heard. It's kind of like banning size 4 dresses and thinking that that's gonna cure anorexia or making free bar nuts illegal to combat alchoholism, match books illegal to comabat smoking. All this stuff does is piss people off...
Not everyone is a good mom like you chick. Just leaving it to the parents doesn't work when half the parents are as bad as the kids.
You want to combat this shit you could make a good start by instead of teaching kids in school not to have sex start teaching them how to raise a family. Stop looking for something to blame TV/video games and start looking for something to fix.
Metalshop? Gym? Pretty broad definition of academic you have there
I want to extend the on Savages last point, yes school is for academic education and practical education like gym and metalshop. But its for life experience, the most useful skills your learn at school arent what they can teach you in a classroom, but things like social skills, intiative, life situations and stuff like that. In the UK school league tables and wanting the best exam results for the school has lead to pupils only being taught how to pass exams, and very little they can put into practice in the wider world. Here's a very interesting statistics, out of the 1000 richest guys in the UK onky 1 in 6 has A levels (thats what you get at the end of college, what would be the last 2 years of highschool in America) and many of those didnt have a full time job until they did whatever they did to get rich. This is because when your at work all day you don't have time to think of great ideas, and when your sitting at home all day or out and about you've got time to think. I've got a friend who dropped out of college after 1 year, 8 months later he owns 2 companies and is buying a flat, he'll probably be a millionaire by the time he's 25.
Long story short, the academic part of school gets you to being an ordinary guy, another face in the crowd, who will never be rich, but learning life skills and being creative and having intiative and drive gets you extremely rich. Of course completely slacking off in school get you nowhere, but those who have the right attitude and ambition get everywhere.

Agreed and even then the drugs were pot and speed. We have failed as a society... Reminds me of the movie(forget the name). The hooker and guy are frozen and wake up to the most stupid society. Funny as hell though.
There's only one crime in nature which is stupidity, and the punishment is death.
