Re: New Microsoft Technology
I'm struggling to think of anything useful you could use it for though...

Zog, could you copy paste your reply from the other forum?
(you have to sign up/username/password for that forum.)
To me the technology for "multitouch" looks interesting, imo "multitouch"
will be with us in the future.

You're right, you're right. I didn't think. Ever since my greivous injury back in 'Nam, Ctrl+V sends shooting pains through my knee-caps (don't ask me to explain, I told you it was greivous).

I hate to sound negative, but the truth is that this is more hype than anything. There are several faults with both the design and the practical, real-life dealings with this type of device.
They used to have desks where you could put your big, gompy CRT down, inside the desk. So you'd have to literally look down on your desk through a piece of glass to see the monitor.
You'd basically be in the same posture using this "Microsoft Surface"; bent over the top, staring down at the "screen". Try that for just 2 hours and let me know how you feel about it then. They should tilt the surface slightly so that you wouldn't have to bend or crane your neck so much to see.
What if the surface gets scratched, dirty, greasy? Ever seen a mouse or laptop's pointing stick after a few months of use? Ever see a Palm Pilot's screen after a year, even with those disgusting plastic, stick-on "Protectant Shields"? They're usually so disgusting you wouldn't touch it with an Apollo 11 astronaut glove.
What if you drop something on it (what real-life human being has never spilled or dropped something on a table-like surface)? Throw in a couple of sub-teen kids and see how quickly your $10,000 Microsoft Surface starts behaving. Throw in a few hormone enraged teen-agers and see how it works then.
Devices like this look great in promos, but are terrible in real life. They've hyped Tablet PCs for years, yet I see maybe 1 out of the 300 clients I see from week to week. They're just not practical, no matter how slick they can make them look.
It may appear very cool, they'll spend a lot of money on its development and marketing, a few techno-newbies who just have to have the lastest\greatest thing will buy them and they'll quickly sink into obscurity.
I remember when 10 years ago every high-tech company was promising we'd all be talking to our computers instead of using keyboards and mice, and that's not happening. Ever.

I'm with Zog on this it looks good but beyond using it as a fancy coffee table to show off to your friends (and a pretty crappy coffee table because you can't put your feet up on it) it's pretty useless.
Even if they convert it for use on a regular screen it's still inferior to the mouse/keyboard control not least because your own hands will be blocking your view of what youa re trying to do. It'll be ok for basic manouvring but crap for precision work. Maybe a pen for precision work but then there are already pads for that and they are a fuck load less expensive than it would be to put the technology into the screen...
All in all it's about as useful as then they put a widescreen tv in the boot of someone's car on pimp my ride. Sure it looks cool but ultimately who the hell is ever going to use it?
Re: New Microsoft Technology
Ctrl+X is "Cut", which works but you can't pretty much remove text from a web page.
Ctrl+C is "Copy".
You Englanders always do things differently. Since you guys drive on the wrong side of the road over there, are your right-clicks really left clicks?
Touch screens are disgusting. You might as well be sticking your fingers in someone's sphincter after a week or two.
This "Microsoft Suirface" is just the result of some over-educated marketing "genius" trying to make PCs more "user-friendly" for frikin retards. They're always trying to bring in more people, and there are plenty of people out there with more money than common sense who will look at crap like this as a way to make up for their complete lack of skill with a computer.
And on a slightly different note, they should rename that show "Pimp My Ride" to "See How Stupid American Kids Can Be".
"Yo-yo-yo, X-ibit put a fur-lined sink in the passenger seat of my 1988 K-Car. Now the bitches will think I'm fly! Boooooooooooooooooy!" Muslim Extremists use that show to bolster their confidence in their war against America. They figure when this generation of kids gets old enough to raise their own kids, America will be ripe for the picking.
Thanks, MTV.

LoL I was working on the assumption that you'd have clicked quote to get the quote tags and save typing them later, in which case ctrl x is the puppy
Either way "control a" is surplus to requirements

Control A selects all Text in the field, so you don't have to put the effort foward to actually click and highlight the text with the mouse.
Want to know the easiest way to do something....Ask a lazy person:red:
