Ripping Streams from ECGN Radio...

Postby Holden M'Groin » Thu Apr 24, 2003 9:30 pm

Streamripper allows you to download an entire station of music. Many of these mp3 radio stations only play certain genres, so you can now download an entire collection of goa/trance music, an entire collection of jazz, punk rock, whatever you want.

It's a very small and easy to use plugin for Winamp. I use it all the time when listening to Digitally Imported. It rips the streams to .mp3's in what ever kbps the stream was.

Holden, how good are the rips you get from DI Radio? I used to rip from them but I'm a stickler for full length rips. I found that DI fades the songs into each other, and I'm not talking about beat matching either. Do your songs come out cut at the ends?

When I listen to DI radio or any streaming radio I listen in at 128kbps and Streamripper will rip the streaming audio to produce an mp3 of 128kbps. 128kbps is good as far a quality, but nothing compared to 192kbps, which is what I rip CDs at. Streamripper does a pretty good job at knowing when to pause the rip at the end of a streamed song and continue ripping at the beginning of another streamed song. The songs ripped from DI radio come out great and the ends are not cut at all.

You guys need to bounce up to 320 or VBR(100%) for rips directly from CDs - the difference between them and 192 is as noticable as the difference betweer 128 and 192.

Yea, 320 is awesome, but when you have a 256MB mp3 player... you gotta make the most of the space.

To be exact, I can upload 4,322 320KBps files onto it, and listen to them for 8 hours before recharging.
