Re: Trades- Electrician
I slaved for 3 years (well OK, I partied a lot) on my Biochemistry degree. After which I got two other one-year degrees, in IT and in teaching. Then I had a career in IT.
You might think that I wasted my time on the biochemistry degree, but looking back, I think not. It gave me essential skills, such as a scientific approach to problems, that I've used daily in IT.
Also, now that I'm a consultant in IT security, I can bid on contracts that require a college degree... they never specify what field the degree should be in.

Re: Trades- Electrician
LoL should have gone for an easier degree then m8. Sports science or something of that ilk

Re: Trades- Electrician
Yeah that wasn't the easiest course to take. We were 150 at the beginning, and 11 to get the diploma after 3 years.
On the other hand, I found biochemistry, on the rare occasions I rose over my drunken stupor, to be quite interesting. I might have gone into that if there had been open jobs at the time.

Ahhh Slaughter, never pass up an opportunity to tell us how much you make....
RAND0M!!!! Yeah I remember you talking about this way back when also.
Get that degree, whoever earlier said it is harder to get the degree later in life was CORRECT!!!! I didnt finish college the 1st time around, and it SUCKED getting my bachelors later in life, such a huge pain.
Having said that I start my masters in June.
But get that degree, if for some reason you still want to be an electrician, then do it but at least you have the degree as some insurance. Some people really like that stuff, but yeah you will have to work in some adverse conditions thats for sure. I loved your post Zog, very entertaining.

Re: Trades- Electrician
I enjoy my job at times. As a carpenter it is satisfying to walk up to a foundation and walk away a few weeks later with a house there. There is a sense of accomplishment. However with that said. I hate the dumb ass morons I work with. I have been doing it for ten years and running a crew for seven or so. It is almost impossible to find people who are not drunks, pill poppers, wife beaters, dead beat dads or ex convicts to name a few things.

Yea, I figured I should just do it and not harp on it so much. Better to have the degree than not. I'm in classes anyways, so all is well. Hoping to transfer to Bentley this fall, wish me luck

Plus most people change their careers quite a bit so I should have that insurance with the degree if I decide to test the waters else where and not like it.
