I downloaded my game from steam. It just took along time to update. It kept saying the servers were to busy. But other than that no problems.

Your problems have been just too weird. Are you sure that you have all the necessary ports open on your Firewalls? Do you have a software firewall or windows firewall on, that may be blocking?

Sygate personal firewall, when programs are updated they firewall prompts me to accept the new versions of programs contacting the web.
Everytime I delete the clientregistry.blob file it prompts me when I start Steam, I say yes allow and everything should work fine without a problem. I disabled this and my AVG antivirus one time and it did nothing to help my cause.

Any items trying to access my computer(from outside) or the network(web) must be approved by me with my Sygate firewall.

Why would it download to 90%+ then start having issues with firewalls or ports?

Would it make any difference if I changed my DNS address(through my router) to work with my modem. Comcast specifies a certain DNS that needs to be manually inputted. DNS from CPU to router is standard.

Steam updates itself after everytime I delete the clientregistry.blob file and restart Steam.

Was looking in the Steam forums. Some folks keep trying to launch the game and that seems to spark some download activity.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=644653&highlight=downloads

from one user:
Same problem. Deleting the clientregistry.blob file did NOT help.

I was trying to download COD4. Had to babysit it.

What I noticed is that I could keep the download going longer if I tried to launch the game. By bringing up the launch game window it seemed to spark a response from the Steam servers and the download would initiate if it had stalled. When the data rate was declining and remaining at a low rate I would close the launch window and then try to launch again. This would cause the download to escalate to a higher download rate. Was getting about 850KB/s at high end which is about normal for my ISP.

So try using the game launch to keep the download at peak download rate.

Added Note: OK my bad now I see you posted near the end of this thread. It looks like a lot of Steam Customers are having download issues since 1/15. All I can suggest is keep trying to launch the game everytime you walk by the PC.

Trouble shooting Steam connections, includes port lists to have open on firewall:

Would like to get you going Wes, so I can :flame: you.

Valve is admitting that they are having download issues:

From JMccaskey on 1/29/08:
The fact that downloads sometimes stop/pause is a bug. We are working on identifying the cause and hope to fix it soon.

So far my favorite custom map has been CP_Orange_X. Simple and open, with a central tower, but finds the right niche.

update on my progress(regress).
I have decided since Steam blows monkey ballz, and you smackers only play TF2 nowadays(except sentry of course since he cannot afford anything from the Dollar store) I am going to put in a new hard drive. I bought a 320GB Seagate for $65 last week so I am going to install that.

Problem, Windows XP isn't recognizing my new HD. its hooked up the same way my old one was hooked up(Sata). It asks for a boot disk or whatever. I don't have one of these. When the CPU starts up before it gets to loading Windows I get a screen that recognizes the HD as 298(typical), but Windows still cannot recognize it.

I have previously purchased a device that hooks up any sata drive to IDE mobo, or vice versa. If I hook this up to get Windows loaded onto the drive, can I then unhook it and set it up via Sata(the way my old HD was hooked up)?

Thanks smackers, hoep to be in teh game at some point 2008. Really getting tired of all this CPU BS, my PS3 looks prettier and prettier everyday gaming on it.... the only thign missing is one helluva community!

Are you serious Hazard. I think that maps sucks. Ugly and not friendly to most classes. To each their own I guess.

I like 2fort myself. Smaller map so easier on my fps. I usually play on smaller servers, like GloryofWar 24/7 fort 69.65.109.116:27015. Saw Hazard there, and Chinny once.
