Author who wrote '2001: A Space Odyssey' along with many others. Believe it or not, this guy's contribution to science is quite amazing for a mere science-fiction writer.

Rendezvous with Rama was a lesser known, but great book by Clarke. There were several sequels "co-written" by some hack who basically raped the original idea (Gentry Lee).

His writing was great because he took fact and physics seriously. 2001, if you read or watch the movie today still looks great. About the only things "dated" in the movie are the clothes and the fact that Pan-Am was still in business.

Clarke is\was also adamantly anti-religion, calling religion "a necessary evil in the childhood of our particular species".

Interesting man, no doubt.
