Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
strafe jumping is a quark in the Q3 engine. the IDTech4 engine is not the same and does not have that characteristic. Instead, you have that high ass jump when you run up slopes and hit jump.
I really think this will play much like Quakewars plays (moving and shooting anyway). I expect you will have a crosshair dot and be able to strafe whilst shooting. but I think you wont be able to sprint and shoot. I bet your weapon drops while you sprint.

Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Thats assuming that it uses the IDTech4 engine, in an interview John Carmack the guy that makes the engines said he felt he had a new engine left for this game. I have not seen enough info regarding this so I can't say for sure.
Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Im not assuming anything.
Previously referred to as the "DOOM 3 Engine", id Tech 4 is our current technology licensing platform. Used by such titles as DOOM 3, QUAKE 4, Prey and Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars, as well as the next Wolfenstein title, id Tech 4 revolutionized the use of real-time dynamic lighting, while the new MegaTexture code offers previously unprecedented terrain detail.

there is an IDTech5 but the first game to use that will be Rage.
Not only is it the IDTech4 engine but it is specifically the build that Splash Damage built for ETQW. I can source this once I find where I read that. Also, they will not be using the megatexture.

Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Yes that is there current engine that they are selling and the one used by splash damage but Splash damage has nothing to do with Wolfenstein , they did with ET and rtcw.
It is being done by ID, Raven, and Endrant and 1 other I can't recall. There are alot of rumors out there and even more speculation. If you have something from a reputable source concerning the engine can you please post it I would be interested to read it

Endrant = ex splash damage employees who created w:et.
Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
You mean ID's website that states IDTech4 is in fact being used is not a reputable source? Seems more reputable than some interview that you have not linked to.
I never said Splash Damage had anything to do with Wolfenstein. ID owns every bit of code they wrote for ETQW and they are using it as a starting point for the Wolfenstein MP. This is not that relevant to the original concerns Shooter brought up which was strafe jumping.
Having played 3 other IDTech4 games I can say the possibility of there being strafe jumping is slim to none.

Ya I read on their site (prolly same article, Twitch) that rather than create a new engine they are modding the Tech4 - so it'll be like the "Tech4.5" I believe they said. And yes, I seriously doubt they will build in Quake engine features like Strafe jumping. Just not very likely this game will resemble RTCW. Judged as a standalone game, hopefully it will be alright. Judged against RTCW I doubt it will meet people's expectations.
Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Good strafing takes away from proper aiming anyway, glad to see it gone tbh.
I read the community posts on the wolfenstein but that is just conjecture not actual fact. I have not seen a post by ID saying which engine they used. I asked if anyone had a link to such info in case I was mistaken and could read for myself. I read the news article on the ID web as well but that is quite old and just says the Wolfenstein part will be updated upon completion.
Anybody that recalls the making of ET knows how things can change with ID, but anyways I see it will be featured on gametrailers TV so hopefully they will reveal some more info on it. Thanks for your attitude though Twitch its real productive

Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Wolfenstein is using id's Tech 4 engine, is being developed simultaneously on PC and console, and carries a release date of "when it's done." We suspect it'll be out late this year. For more info on the game, make sure to check out our recent interview with the game's creative director.

Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Games that uses the IDtech4 engine:
* Doom 3 – id Software
o Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil – Nerve Software
* Quake 4 – Raven Software
* Prey – Human Head Studios
* Call of Duty 4 - Infinity Ward (Heavily Modified)
* Enemy Territory: Quake Wars – Splash Damage
* Wolfenstein – Raven Software
Quake4 - With strafing and jumping!
Hope is still there!
Put some pressure on Sokal, perhaps he'll listen to what we want for the PC version.

Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Thanks for the link to 1up Blaster that does help confirm. I watched a big segment on spike TV that showed a more in depth look at the game explaining more . They did say it still is not finished and they have changed it a few times already. I cant see too many major changes this late in production but then again ID is picky and have scraped projects and started from scratch before. For those interested have a look

huh?? this isnt the civil war gamb. wtf is proper aiming. Do soldiers not move when they shoot?
Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Sure they do, and if you have ever fired a gun while moving you will notice just how hard it is to hit a stationary target let alone a moving target, and then there is the matter of recoil. It was simply an opinion , not directed at anyone, I thought thats what forums were for an exchange of ideas and opinions

You know, ever since I've known you I've gotten nothing but attitude, accusations and general contempt from you Gamb. Unprovoked I might add, at least in the beginning anyway. Do you really think you are in a position to tell me that this is not productive?
Re: Time to register for Wolfenstein
Absolutely Twitch because on here I attempted civility but you try and pick apart every little issue like a kid with a grudge, veiled or not its very evident and always has been. If you hate make a long post about how you hate me etc and get it off your chest then lets move on ok. I can appreciate different points of view and debate as long as its valid and not simply malice
