PunkBuster and Windows 7

Postby liquidswords » Sun Oct 04, 2009 1:38 am

i've been using the final version of 7 ultimate 64-bit for a few weeks.
when i join any server with pb on, such as ecgn, i get kicked by PB for an API function.
PB doesn't officially support 7 yet because evenbalance sucks, but does anyone know a workaround for this issue in the meantime? my pb is fully updated so that isn't the issue.

Doesn't look good sorry man, I have a full version of WinXP, so any computer I buy, I do a clean format and install WinXP

I have Win 7 Ultimate 64bit, and no dice here, either.

I def has something to do with graphics and color schemes, though. Without any tweaks, I can get into the server...but then Win7 changes the system's color scheme and the game screen goes all gray. Can't see a thing, but audio is fine. If I try to force Win7 from stoping that color scheme change, then Punkbuster kicks.

Anyone else with Win7 have any luck? Any other thoughts?

Win7 changes the Aero color scheme to "Windows 7 Basic" and that's when the gameplay screen goes blank. Trying to stop Win7 from doing this will cause a PB API kick.

Win7 Ultimate allows you to run programs in "compatibility mode", and even trying XP mode....no go.

Running RTCW as admin, and running PB as admin. Still no good. API kick from PB.

xp mode is only for 2d apps and is useless for games

i can play enemy territory without getting kicked by pb which is weird

i guess i'll just wait a couple weeks to see if evenbalance fixes it. dual boot with another os is the only option right now but that's a pain in the ass

Nice, then I dont have to tweak Minesweeper anymore!

Run program as xp mode or vista mode does that help?
Enter the game without any cfg works?
Whats the api code no?

Try moving your RTCW install folder into your 'Documents' folder and run it from there (as Administrator.) You shouldn't need compatibility mode, so if you have that enabled, uncheck all that....See what happens. This will let you know if it is a permissions issue.

I've noticed this fixed some problems when I tried it before under Win7 (32-bit) but I haven't yet tried the 64-bit version of Win7. Maybe I'll do a test install of that this weekend to try it.

I'll have to try that MAA, and let you know. I'm pretty busy with work the next couple days, though...

Blaster, I've run it as XP and Vista mode, with no help. I have not tried to change my RTCW config.

I don't remember the API number off the top of my head. I'll have to get back to you on that.

also windows 7 still has that acceleration problem that xp and vista had.
i recommend using this accel fix to get rid of it. it's better than the "cpl mouse fix".

anir/aion's accel patches don't work in windows 7

Try this, the following.

Go to "Start"
Type mmc and hit enter.
Goto file
Add/Remove snap-in
Services
Add
Finish

Now find PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB.
Right click and goto properties
click the logon tab and check the box
"Allow service to interact with desktop"

Hit apply and ok.

Shout if it´s works!

so 7 is in stores as of yesterday. i thought there would at least be an announcement on the evenbalance site about compatibility issues with windows 7.
guess what? nothing. no updates, no announcements. fuck evenbalance and fuck punkbuster.
the evenbalance policy is that they don't support "beta" operating systems. basically this means they are too lazy to get off their fat asses and work on a fix/update even though the FINAL RTM version of 7 has been available for months.
now that it's in stores i assume evenbalance is working full speed to get this fixed. and by full speed i mean sitting on their asses stuffing twinkies in their fatfuck faces while maybe accomplishing 10 whole minutes of work a day. seriously, why do these guys even get paid?

What version of 7 are you running? RC or RTM? What are your hardware specs? Did you try moving your wolf install somewhere into your user folder (i.e. Documents folder, etc)?
