windows 7 ultimate 64-bit rtm
admin account with uac disabled

abit ip35 pro
intel core 2 duo 8400
4gb corsair ddr2
nvidia 9800gtx

latest drivers for everything. pb fully updated, ran pbsetup and pbsvc. i am pretty good with computers and used vista for a long time, never had any trouble with pb.
i've tried basically everything imaginable including moving my wolf folder into my documents folder.
i appreciate your suggestions but the problem is on evenbalance's end, not mine. do google searches and you will see tons of people having trouble in different games. relatively newer games like cod4 seem to work ok.

I don't doubt it is a Punkbuster problem...Not sure if you checked the version number on the PnkBstrA service (under Administrative Tools\Services). If you double click on the service and in the Description box it will show you the version number installed. Mine happens to be v1029. Check what version you have...I remember a bug some people had while using Vista where this file wasn't properly updated...even after using PBSetup. Here are the relevant PB files I have...

First file is PnkBstrA.exe. I have 2 copies of this file...

First is in C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64 folder.
Second copy is inside the pb folder within my RTCW install folder...

Second file name is PnkBstrB.exe. I have 2 copies of this file as well (in the same folders as PnkBstrA.exe)

Third file is PnkBstrB.xtr...This one is only within the C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64 folder.

Fourth file is PnkBstrK.sys...This one is only within the pb folder.

Here is a link to a copy of my files...

http://69.65.113.18/pb.zip

I'm using XP-x64, but the files used should be exactly the same...Compare your files to mine and if necessary manually replace your files with these ones and see if that clears up the problem. I remember helping someone else with this and it fixed the problem.

i checked the version and mine was v1032
i also had the same files (PnkBstrA, PnkBstrB, PnkBstrB.xtr, PnkBstrK.sys) in the locations you mentioned
replaced those files with your versions just to see if it would make a difference and i actually got kicked even faster
usually what happens is i can connect to the server and even join a team, maybe kill one player
then i'm kicked for api function 131124, it usually happens after about 15-20 seconds

one strange thing i've noticed is that when i run pbsvc it says:
Checking firewall settings OFF
Is PnkBstrA explicitly allowed?
C:\Windows\system32\PnkBstrA.exe NO
Is PnkBstrB explicitly allowed?
C:\Windows\system32\PnkBstrB.exe NO

it's like their pbsvc program is broken because it says it's checking the system32 folder instead of the syswow64 folder...unless it's supposed to do that but i doubt it

Did you happen to reboot after replacing the files? Reason I ask is because that service is started on bootup and continually runs in the background...(wasn't sure if you stopped the service or not before replacing the files)...Try replacing the files, reboot, then check what version is running (check 'Services' and see if it is using the 1029 version after reboot)

See if that makes any difference at all.

Do you also get kicked if you stay in specs or does the kick not happen until you join a team?

I'd like to narrow down the problem as best I can because if it is possible to work around the problem with server side settings, I might have to do that especially since Windows 7 is out now.

i didn't reboot but i stopped the service and removed it with pbsvc just in case. i then copied your files and checked the version. 1029 was properly installed and i was able to test it in wolf but it didn't help.
i get kicked if i stay in spec as well.

OK..So I installed Windows 7 to test this out and I saw the same issue you did.

After tinkering around client side, I was unable to fix the problem. But I did notice that the time it took to get kicked was not consistent. I thought about what the Punkbuster client could be doing to cause the error. Then it came to me...MD5 checks.

I'm fairly certain I have this issue fixed server side now by removing the MD5 checks. I'll leave these off until EvenBalance fixes this issue.

I reverted all the settings I made on the computer to the defaults and I still did not get kicked...

Only requirement is to 'Run As Administrator'

Let me know how you make out.

hmm well it sounded like you had it figured out so i hopped on the server and still got kicked
i tried running it normally first, got kicked and then i tried run as administrator and got kicked
my friend is also running 7 64-bit on a different computer and he got kicked too
i'm using default pb settings and have not changed pb_security, pb_sleep, pb_system or anything

Yeah..weird. I was playing for a while with no kick.

I rebooted into Windows 7 again..no change..and got kicked...sometimes after 2 seconds..sometimes after several minutes...

Guess it's a waiting game from here

So, to summarize:
If I install Windoze 7, I will not be able to play wolf?
Or is this only 64 bit version issue?
Do what you always did,
you'll get what you always got.

The problem is definitely there in the 64-bit version.

I haven't yet tried the final 32-bit version(RTM), so I'm not sure if it will have the same problem or not.

I wouldn't rush to make the switch yet.

Which version were you planning on installing?

Update: 32-bit seems to work fine.

Yup, my Win 7 64bit Ultimate (RTM) is still having problems, too.

Punkbuster kick for "Unknown Windows API function 131124".

I learned from past/recent experiences that if anything goes wrong with the initial setup of PB it will NOT straighten out unlesss you re-install the game along with PB, then run the SETUP.exe from evenbalance.
I'm not saying that this will solve the problem but there is a chance that it will. If MAA has it working then it must work somehow.
Worth a shot. Make sure EVERYTHING related to RTCW and PB is gone from your computer and registry before re-installation.
