Help (PB related?)

Postby pixi » Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:15 pm

Okay, here's the thing.

I am sort of a noob when it comes to figuring a LOT of computer things out...butttt. Here's the situation.

I haven't played wolf in approximately four years.
My mom and I have been trying to get it to work for three days now.
On two different computers.

One of them is a new laptop with Vista & Windows 7,
and the other one is a custom-built computer...that's ALWAYS ran RtCW.

Well, I installed the game on both computers, as I always do,
patched it up, put on goty, etc, etc.

I proceeded to join a server.
Well, every server kicked me for PB not being updated.
So I updated it.

I tried both automatically enabling updates in the game, and I tried using the manual PB updating thing on evanbalance.

No matter what I did, how many times I reinstalled, etcetc, BOTH computers crash wolfMP when I have punkbuster updated.

I can't type anything in console because it crashes ON the grey screen before I even get to the menu.

Help??

Do you have the GOTY edition of the game? If not, you need to download the 1.33 patch first, install it. Then install the 1.4 patch, then the 1.41.

after that, you do the PB update through evenbalance.

I use vista 64, it took some playing around to get it. One thing with me is I can't bring up the master server on my computer. I can only bring down the console menu and type the IP for the server which is:

69.65.113.18

try that out and let me know, if you already did all of that I have no idea.

Haha, like I said, I have installed everything the same way I always have, including all of the patches and GOTY.

Before I update punkbuster - game works fine, I just cannot play on servers sicne it's not updated.

After I update punkbuster - game crashes before it even OPENS...on the grey screen. No console availability or anything --

For Vista ( I don't know anything about windows7) use method #4, it's the easiest.
see if doing this will allow PB to run.

Oh, I guess I should have mentioned that the PC I'm on right now, the custom-built one, is actually Windows XP and ran RtCW completely fine when we played it three years ago.

Have any solutions to why XP will not allow the updated version of PB?

Check your firewall settings and also check your video drivers.

Delete the pb folder completely from your Wolf install folder, then run PBSetup from evenbalance website.

http://evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

On Vista/Windows 7 make sure you run the game as Administrator. (Right click on WolfMP icon and choose Run As Administrator)

I've done that PBSetup thing a thousand times, deleted the folder and everything.

As long as the new version of punkbuster is on either of these computers, wolf crashes. :/

Did you run the PBSetup program and Wolf as Administrator?

I turned off all firewalls on both computers.
I've ran it as administrator on both computers.
I've done PBSetup as admin in every way possible.

I've done like..everything.

There isn't really anything in common with both computers, and yet it's doing the same thing with both computers.

And the odd thing is...nothing has changed on this computer since I last played it...(hence why it works until I use the updated version of punkbuster...which came out since I last played).

I don't know what else to do.
I just want to play the stupid game :[

Are they both connected through a router? If so, did you check the settings in it?

Like I said, I am quite the noob, haha. What do I do to check the settings, and what should they be?

Four years ago we were all using PBweb, are you using the new PB updater PBexe?

A good start would be to try connecting without the router first to see if that is the problem.

What kind of router is it?
