Rise of Nations - totally awesome game!!
Think AOE times 10 times better, you start in the ancient age and advance through all of the ages until you get to the information age. THIS IS THE WAY C&C: GENERALS SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!
Each time period has its different ways to wage war...it's freaking awesome! I've only played the demo but man, it has everything the full game does, except all of the nations...
You can play in the modern age and wage world war II style battles complete with German infantry, Tigers, BF109s, everything! Even V2 rockets! Some of the nations are true to life, like British, Japanese etc so expect Zeros, Aichivals for air support for the Japanese, Spitfires, B-17s for British, blah blah blah in the modern age (World War II circa) .... Don't like modern age? Advance to Information age and have nuclear missiles and even cruise missiles, why stop there, upgrade to a ICBM and you don't even have to send in troops, just sit back and launch a few of these babies to level entire cities and every living being in it!!!
Build B-2 Stealth Bombers to raze buildings and be impervious to their ground defenses, you're screwed though if they launch fighters for air to air support.
Don't like modern warfare? Wage war in the Medieval ages, swordsplay styles...take it further to the Enlightenment age and play with muskets and crappy WW1 period tanks/armored cars.... the possibilities are endless!!
A lot of micro-management, but not as bad since you have the option of "Turbo resources" where all teh resources don't run out at all and you can focus on building/waging war/developing commerce.
Great game guys, check it out!!
I love it when I research Artificial Intelligence and all my units are build instantly! Built like 10 ICBMs and leveled all of their 10 mighty cities, then sent in my F-22s and B-2s and watch them run like hell! hahahahahahhahahhaha!
Those who fled were chased down by Cruise Missiles however..hahahahaha

Buli...Agent... If you guys like RTS games (I love them)..keep your eye out for a game called Savage... It is described as one part 3D, two parts RTS, and 3 parts FPS...
that's right, a RTS and a FPS... it is multi-player only and the engine looks great. Stone and gold are the only resources and combat will be similar to Warcraft III...
sounds interesting, but not sure how the FPS/RTS interface will play out....

I will have to check it out. I loved Total Annihalation, AoE2 and AoM, etc. Warcraft III was a huge disappointment for me. I saw incredible ideas presented in Empire Earth but it just didn't play out that well.
I've read about Rise of Nations and heard really good stuff. I also heard there is a kind of turned based "Risk" style piece to it as well. Is that true?
Speaking of other games, has anybody played Veitcong? I'm just curious. I've heard really good and really bad reviews but nothing in between.

Vietcong is pretty cool, there is a lot of camouflage aspect to it, as you play almost exclusively in the jungle... a well set up sniper is VERY hard to spot... The guns are pretty cool as well... I especially like how you can find some shallow water to hide in and then pop out and blow people away, Tackleberry style...
Overall I would say it's a pretty darned good game...

Yeah, I thought so too about BF1942. Its what got me going ape-shit first time I played the MP Demo of BF...
I remember the days of flying off the cliffs on Wake in the plane and asking, "Gawddam it why isn't ma plane takin' off?!"
