New Idea, Need Input

Hey there,

This was originally posted on another forum, but wanted to reach a larger audience to get input. Please read and post any ideas, thoughts here.

So now that I have a little more free time on my hands I'm looking at giving back to the gaming community as a whole, not just BF1942.
So my idea was this,
I've always had a problem with seeing forums and hearing gamers complain about issues with games, hardware, fees, whatever to no avail. I don't like that companies like EA and others release a product and sometimes stop supporting it. Or issues like someone had with SWG. Kids make up a large demographic of gamers. How the hell can they get a credit card to pay for online games?
These are just a few of the issues. It would be a sounding board where the gamers voice can be heard. Thus the name, World Gaming Union. It would be just that. A union. But would work off of donations, not dues. The leadership would be headed by myself, siteadmins from various gaming sites, leaders of a few ESTABLISHED gaming clans from various games. I will have a small logo made up that sites can post to show they're support.
I registered a site, http://www.worldgamingunion.com. Which is the first step. I'm getting names and email address/phone numbers of potential board members and once that's done we'll be open. I need a place to host the site, and somebody that can act as a site admin (I'm not that great with that stuff) and someone to do the art work and logo.
I think this can be a good thing. One voice is hard to hear, but many voices can create quite a rumble.

I think he is just wasting his time... there will always be idiots on forums. Whats wrong with complaining about games?? If other ppl dont like it they can ignore it.

No, no, no, you are all missing the point I think.

He wants one universal, well know site/organization, for people to get together when the gaming companies are taking advantage of consumers by realeasing sub-par product and thinking it is okay.

For example, when PC World publishes a letter from a reader saying "Company XYZ sold me a lemon PC and won't take it back," then company XYZ gets contacted by PC World. Suddenly, company XYZ goes into a bad publicity panic and magically has a new PC and a refund at that customers door via next-day UPS or Fed-Ex.

His idea is, we all need to unite and let our voices be heard in a medium that will shake up gaming companies when the release crap and expect us to wait and wait and wait for fixes while they pour resources into their next product. A website and organization that can warrant a response from gaming companies. How many of YOUR tech support e-mails actually get answered?

Face, it's a good idea in practice, but there's one major downside to it all. Even if we did have "one unified voice" to make ourselves heard to the game-makers, there are far, FAR more gamers who will run out and buy a game even if they know it to be crap. Diablo 3 could boast the most revolutionary gameplay and graphics in the universe, but people would still buy if it came with the disclaimer that purchasing it entitles one ex-con to come over to your house and rape you in the ass.

There are way too many fanboys out there, and the gamemakers really have no need to kowtow to anyone since they still sell a million units to the console freaks. And seeing as most companies produce both console and pc games, I don't think they'd have any qualms about stopping production on pc games altogether. Compared to the console market, pc gaming is a niche market that has plateaud over the last couple of years.

I'm not saying we shouldn't rock the boat, it's just that the boat is the Titanic and pc gaming is located in steerage.

I think it is a really good idea! Great idea actually.

Some people will buy games no matter what, but atleast there is a site that exists, and we could say 'told ya so!'

You never know, your site could get SUPER popular and attract a lot of gamers. Mine as well try it.

Don't let people discourage you. That's a really good idea, and would help a lot of people.
