WELCOME TO SWG BETA 4

This was not ready for release, even the devs have said that. In a couple of months the bugs and the major exploits should be gone and the game IMO will be the game it was intended to be from the start.

Personaly I haven't enjoyed a game this much since the early days of BF!

The jedi stuff initially drew me in as well when the game was first announced. But what I'm sure most realize is, as soon as a few enterprising players figure out how to become a jedi, they have every lat step up on Gamefaqs and soon everyone in the game will be a jedi.

And then Verant will call it an exploit and change how it's done and start rolling back accounts, and people will get pissed. Verant will quickly issue mods and expansion packs, until there's about 10 of them out and the next one in line is "Star Wars Galaxies: Mynock Milkers' in which you can milk mynocks and play as the E.T.'s briefly seen in Phantom Menace.

It'll all spiral out of control until the only people who can become jedi are those that have played for over 5000 hours and paid heavily into the new "Jedi Union"©.

Ok... this is a very interesting bug. On my best computer it doesnt work for crap(always crashing or freezing) on my old computer it works fine... ive even tried a fresh install of windows on my newer machine. Until they get this fixed guess im stuck playing on my old machine...

It cant be my drivers or hardware... i can play planetside, battlefield, half life, warcraft, etc perfectly fine... and planetside is even ran on SOE same as SWG. Has to be a bug on SWG causing this prob.

as much as I'd like to try being a Jedi and see what that's like...from what I've seen, it is EXTREMELY difficult to do so. (Considering that noone really knows how to become one, I'm not sure where all these opinions are coming from)....Everyone has their own idea of what it takes to be a Jedi...from realistic assumptions to absurd ideas. I say "who cares!?!?!?".... I'm sure LucasArts and Sony are in no hurry for people to achieve Jedi status....
I can only imagine that it is very difficult and very time consuming to do so, and in the meantime, I am having the time of my life! Jedi or not, I couldn't care less right now...

nightstalker...thought you had the issue resolved with the hub/router thing.... but guess not. I still think it is something with that machine....have you tried an exorcism on it????:D

Yuck, according to the Devs, each character has a unique path to become a Jedi.

Lol, there are at least 100 other ppl with the same problem as me. Together we have figured out it is sumthing with the Radeon 9800, cuz thats what we all use. Now we are trying to get the devs to notice us but so far all they do is ignore us.

I bet you it's not an SWG problem, it's an ATI Driver problem!

ATI's 9800 is listed on the list of compatible cards, so a major problem like this would (or should) be noticed long before.

Notice how the the 3.6 Catalyst driver's have been released after the game came out, and I bet that if you ask 75% of those with problems probably have 3.6.

True, sometimes the wrong thing to do is to get the latest drivers.

This is from a post on the official SWG boards. I don't know if it is true or just SOE's way of trying to keep the people from being tards.

Quote:
The best philosophy does appear to be WWJD (What Would Jedi Do).

You see, a group of hackers (that will remain nameless) have looked at SWG's code extensively, using methods similar to emulation as we have seen for a few MMORPGS (UOX is an example of an emulation for UO). And well, this is what they have discovered:

The game appears to be keeping track of several mundane things, apparently trying to find the best type of player suited to be a Jedi. One of those things, is related to the swear filter.

The game actually watches what a player says and how many times the player says it on average. The hackers found a whole listing of words, everything from swear words to l33t speak to abbreviations. If the hackers are correct, this system that SOE has put into place will effectively make it so you won't really see Jedi's running around yelling "I pwned j00 nooBs!" when they do kill 20 people. The system is apparently looking at people who behave. The more you curse and speak l33t, the less of a chance you have to be Jedi. Ingenious!

Not only that, the hackers uncovered some things on dueling. The game apparently keeps track of certain bits of info when you duel. It finds out who started the duel, who ended it, how long did it last, if any swearing was used and several other variables. More importantly, it keeps track of info on who gives deathblows, therefore the game might ALSO be looking at who is merciful or perhaps more honorable. Faction fights are also looked at, though they still do not understand the variables clearly.

The game is also keeping track of how fast people advance too, if they are using macros, and how long they are online, and how many steps they take. THIS system is apparently trying to stop powergamers from becoming Jedi. Which makes sense, because Control, Patience and Focus are all attributes of a Jedi. Powergamers do not have these properties. Jedi's do not crave Adventure or Excitement, as said by Yoda himself. The game seems to favor people who advance slower, yet still play the game regularly and explore their world (which is where the amount of steps comes in).

These hackers have been planning to rip the game apart to look for Jedi info long when the game was still in development. The best advice they can give based on their findings right now is just to be a good person. Not just in character, but in everything you do. If SOE's system truly works as it should, the people who aquire Force Slots won't be a bunch of power gaming jerks, but will rather be people who truly have the Jedi spirit.

They still do not know what triggers the Force Slot. They just know some variables.

So change your playstyles accordingly if you've been a bad person, before it's too late. That is, unless you don't want to be a Jedi.

I was in Planetside beta and currently paying for both PS and SWG. I would have to say SWG is by far, much better than PS even though i barely get to play it.

BTW: SWG technical support emailed me back! In my DxDiag file they saw that my AGP card isnt running in AGP mode and told me to download latest motherboard drivers, guess what MY MOTHERBOARD DOESNT HAVE DRIVERS, this game is seriously against my luck. Any suggestions?
