RAM or HD
I have a 120gb 5400rpm HD now and a gig of PNY RAM. The board is an ASUS and can handle 4 gigs of RAM. Here is my dilema. BF takes forever to load. Would a 7200 make a difference? When I reload Windows it seems to take forever to complete the reinstall. Could that be a problem of the 5400rpm drive. The gig of RAM seems to be enough but I really want to juice this machine. Another item is Low Latency and Dual Channel RAM. What is the difference. It looks like right now without spending $400 that I can get (2) 512 sticks of PNY for $200.00. So that would be 2x512 and 2x256. Would this pose a problem with my machine.

ATA or IDE
Let me ask you this. Looking at HD's now. Is there a difference between IDE and ATA? If I can use IDE does that mean I can also use ATA. My MOBO says that I have one Ultra ATA expansion slot. Would I use that slot for the new ATA HD and leave the IDE where it is just as a slave?

There wilol be little difference between ATA and IDE right now. Heck, you do not even use the IDE 100 or 133 to it's fullest yet, so an ATA at 150 will not help either. Now, the RPM will give the ATA a boost.
The best for your money is getting the 'special edition' drives. They have the 8 meg of cache, compared to 2 meg.

Reformat your HD. if that doesn't work, then buy a 7200 rpm hardrive. I just bought one two days ago, and it is LIGHTNiNG fast. I am now the first person to load into BF games

I work and Best Buy, we sell those HP A250N..uhhhh dude, do a format, HP loads up a lot of their software that you do not need at all into their systems. The point of a PC (Personal Computer) is that its personal, you decide what goes into it and goes onto it... when you buy a brand name, I don't even consider them PCs because you had someone else chose your specs and software...
They ship their HT enabled P4 systems with PC-2700...uh, those geniuses at HP don't know jack that P4 with HTs were meant to work in conjunction with dual channel PC-3200/DDR-400....
Of course, the average consumer does not know that and they get gypped....

Jaxstraww, how long does it take to load? I ask simply because maybe it's taking the same amount of time to load as everyone else experiences, just that your being impatient. No offense meant.
This is often the cause with "long load times". I don't know how many times I've heard of people complaining of long load times only to find out they thought 10 seconds or 30 seconds were way too long in their opinion.
