get rid of pop-ups

Well on windows XP anyway;
As follows;

Click start->settings->control panel
Click administrtive tools->services
scroll to and highlight "messenger" and disable

ive been pop-up free for 1 week since doing this (my average was 10-15 a day)

plz let me know if this works for you

windows 2000,XP pro,NT, 98 & me similar :wall:

Yes moe, it works. I did that quite a while ago but I guess you could call me a tech head of sorts so I dug that answer up already, you will be windows pop-up free for eternity as long as thats disabled.

this was already posted in my xp tweak guide in the smoking room. It also has been posted several times before that. Its pretty common knowledge.

man i had that problem last year. it took me like 4 months to figure out it was an open port in windows messenger. i finally found out the messenger service things are just messages network admins were suppossed to send to workers on the network. but because the software for the message system is on the market people buy them for advertisement kind of lame.
