Tech Help!! Burning DVDS

Postby S.S.Lazer » Mon Oct 27, 2003 8:40 pm

Hey i just got a pioneer dvd burner. I want to burn some movies onto dvd so i can watch them on my big screen through my PS2 DVD player but most the formats are in *.WMV format and it will only allow me to burn them in *.mpg format, is there a way around this?? I Know i can convert the *.WMV to *.MPG but each file will take like 2 hours. Is there a program that will burn it as a *.WMV and be playable on DVD players?? Thanks for the help!

If your talking about burning them into VCD/SVCD (which im starting to believe you are)... you don't need a DVD burner, and SVCD's and VCD's will not play in a PS2.

If you're burning to a true DVD format, then mpeg is the only way to go. It will take long to convert wmv to mpeg, but that's really your only choice. Set it up at night while your sleeping.

actually i thought it is mpeg 2 format? and there is a diffrence. anyway it's good to have a dvd player that plays dvds vcd and svcd :) then you can make them from regular cds like mentioned, and runs nicely.

Yep, it's mpeg2, I was just using shorthand since there's only one format.

Also Lazer, you should see if you can find a program that will convert the file at the same time it's burning it to DVD. I've never done much burning of any kind, so I'm not sure which progs can do this, but I know they're out there.

I'm not sure if this is contributing positively to this thread but I saw this and thought it might be pertinent:

Burn DVD in any format

Perhaps you were only looking for a software solution, though....
