Dual 19" Flatpanels

Postby MMmmGood » Tue Nov 11, 2003 2:29 pm

Hey Guys-

Need some advice. My next upgrade is going to be two 19" flatpanel screens. I need more desktop space, and I dont have enough room on my desk for another CRT.

I have a Radeon 9800 Pro right now with 1 VGA and 1 DVI adapter.

I want something at 20ms response time or below, preferably 1600x1200 native so I dont have to force games to run at some weird resolution.

If people who have LCDs could respond and post their opinions on their monitors and what they would of done better, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Jon

well two things:

1" I have a 19" DELL *SAMSUNG" LCD. 25ms and i have ZERO ghosting with any games, more importantly BF 1942.

2: DELL *samsung* have announced a new 20" LCD 16ms coming out in a few months.

The new Dell UltraSharp 2001FP is a 20-inch LCD display and Dell's first flat panel monitor to feature 16 millisecond response times, which allow for distortion-free images during 3-D gaming DVD playback. This response time can greatly reduce the ghosting and smearing that can accompany rapidly-moving images, which means Dimension XPS customers can now enjoy the benefits of a flat panel monitor without compromising gaming performance.

The 2001FP displays powerful, bright images because of its 1600x1200 native resolution and 400:1 contrast ratio. As with all Dell UltraSharp LCD displays, the 2001FP features vertical and horizontal viewing angles of 88 degrees; a thin 0.7-inch bezel; a height-adjustable stand (up to 5.1 inches); four USB 2.0 ports; and a panel that swivels, tilts and pivots to support portrait and landscape orientations.

In addition to providing analog and digital PC inputs, the monitor also has S-Video and Composite Video inputs and a picture-in-picture feature. The 2001FP also features a detachable quick release panel, which makes it easier to transport to events such as LAN parties.

The Dell UltraSharp 2001FP will be available as a standalone product and in additional countries over the next few months.

I purcahased an LCD when they were still new, it was 50 ms response time. needless to say, all games ghost to hell on it, so I use my 19" LCD for everything non-gaming, and my new 19" flat screen CRT for gaming. Perfect setup for me.

Why don't you take a copy of BF to a computer store, install it on a PC and play it on a 25ms LCD? If you're happy with it, go with a 25ms LCD. If not, try a 16 ms LCD.

My friend has a 25ms, and there is slight ghosting on it, which makes me wonder if his LCD isn't 30ms or higher.

Buli you claim to have no ghosting, so maybe 25 is good enough. 25 is probably pretty good, but I can't see it being comparable to a CRT.

*edit*-just read that some 16ms response LCD's display only 16million colours and LOWER, which is the only reason they refresh so quicklyl

not much you can do for what you are asking for. you either have to suck it up and do it, or stick to CRT :)

Id say any samsung monitor is awesome. After working in Best Buy (who does have some pretty nice monitors) for price, and quality, i recommend them to anyone.

My friend bought one.. he also has a 9800 pro and is a pretty hardcore gamer. His is awesome, its the ONLY 19 inch flat panel monitor that I enjoy using.

I heard that Macintosh makes the best LCD's but they might not be compatible with PC's.

Buliwf's samsungs seem like the best bet. Maybe the OLED displays will come out soon, but they are not cheap I think.

My LCD is a Viewsonic 19" VX900. With a 100$ rebate (still waiting on it, btw) it seems like a fine monitor for my new box. I have had to adjust the ATI9800 card to 'lighten' the BF42 view, many maps were too dark at the start. Once adjusted, it has no problems.

Samsung 191t for over $600? Jesus Christ - we aren't all made of that kind of money.

BTW, doesn't it seem like Samsung makes the best of everything?

I love their RAM. Their LCD's are great. It's like they know what the hell they are doing - unlike most companies.

Not true..they are. You will need to buy a converter from apple to use with your PC, like my friend here has...

It is a 23" wide screen Cinema Display from Apple.. MSRP is $1900 USD. :D
