Pay for ESPN?!?!?

Who wants to see that old loser Mark Messier play hockey anyways? I'm a ranger fan who is sick of seeing Messier and all the old people who have no business taking places of where Hartford Youngsters belong. Hockey needs more attention in America. This outdoor game is between 2 canadian teams.. Hockey is huge in canada but is ignored in AMerica which is a big problem.

I would miss Sunday countdown and NFL Matchup and NFL Primetime, but I don't watch a whole lot else on espin the channel...

Now if they did that to the history channel I might be mad...

When I moved to Colorado, my best friend was from Detroit and a huge Red Wing fan. He got me interested in hockey and therefore the Avalanche. I now enjoy watching the NHL as much as any sport. It's really a game that requires a lot of skill, stamina, and you get to see a lot of hard hits and a nice smattering of violence.

Once you understand the rules, and there aren't that many, it's a really enjoyable thing to watch.

Actually, I've been to a couple of WHL games and watched the Winterhawks... adam deadmarsh got his start there...

I was amazed how fast those guys can move, especially wearing all that crap they do... but watching it on tv sucks IMO, because they never show any of the interesting stuff, like fights

I just like to give the hockey fans out there a bad time... it's a sport, it just reminds me of watching soccer on tv... not very exciting. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... nobody scores... maybe if they took out the goalies and made the nets really small and off the ground a couple feet... you have to have some skill shooting the thing to score, but that's it... (braces self for cries of outrage

)

NBA is starting to suck now too... with all these young punks in the game now, nobody can shoot to save their life, and worse they don't seem to care to get better, either. The NBA is going to keep getting worse until they get their act together...

I mostly totally agree with you. Hockey players are amazing athletes and most people don't realize that.

Comparing to soccer, though, I don't know. Hockey is 100 times better than soccer which I find akin to watching grass grow. It's a god-awful spectator sport IMO.

I wouldn't remove the goalie but I would advocate increasing the goal size to to somewhat increase scoring. I dont want to see 20-19 but 8-10 goals a game (both teams included) on average would make it more appealing to more people.

ESPN's problem is of its own making. They pay too much for the rights to brodcast MLB and NFL, and now want to pass on those costs to the cable companies.

As a hockey player from pretty much the moment I could walk, I have to say that hockey is probably one of the more exciting game's to watch on TV. It has the speed that basketball doesn't, it has the hard hits the NFL doesn't. It has the simplicity that baseball doesn't.

Problem is, people get too caught up in the "rules" and "watching the puck". There are virtually NO rules that are complicated in hockey. People are just unwilling to try something new.

They would rather watch Baseball, where you get one pitch, then wait 30 seconds. Or football where it's one play, and then wait 30 seconds. The athletes in these 2 sports are BY FAR the most spoiled, immature, untalented, brats that I have ever seen. Did you know ARod makes MORE by himself, than the ENTIRE Boston Bruins roster? In fact, hardly ANY teams in Hockey spend over 60Mil on their ENTIRE TEAM. Save the Ranger's in New York. But they still suck! hehe

Basketball is just as bad. Overpayed players trying too hard to make themselves look better, followed by a whistle every 3 seconds.

If you want to watch something actually exciting watch an NHL game on ESPN2 on Thursday Night's, or get up and go to one IN PERSON. It will change the way you think about the sport.

I feel the exact same way, and ive also been playing hockey sicne i could walk, hockey players are way underpayed, baseball and hockey salaries should be switched, baseball is far less work then hockey is IMO. As for the most exciting sport to watch, it has to be Hockey, no other sport is non-stop action, and even when there are whistles for offsides or something, its at max 18 seconds before play starts again.

Fox Sports World is a better station IMHO. I'd rather watch rugby, and soccer, and rally car racing, which it covers. The only other sports I can even tolerate other than those is college Basketball and Football. However, I have been getting into boxing lately...

PS. Also, if you want a sport with very little stopping and constant action, watch rugby. Better yet, watch Hurling (basically Irish field hockey).
