A Tale of 6 Boys

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

I have the book that the guy in the story is talking about, Flags of Our Fathers. My wife gave it to me last Xmas and sadly, I haven't read it yet.

I'm definately going to have to take the time to read it now.

Sinister, now that's not fair, taunting him. Leave him alone.

I thought this thread was going to be about honor, when I read about the honor of one man's father. It has turned into something completely different, I'm disheartened to say. Is this truly what we as Americans have degenerated to? I hope not. :(

Oh, I didn't mean it as a taunt.

When I read something like that story, I well up with pride to be an American. It makes me envious of the discipline and courage that my grandfather's generation had.

It does not, however, make me lose my sense of humor.

As far as Jax, he deserves what he gets. Maybe that will teach him to respect someone else's thread and keep his idiotic comments to himself.

Idiotic comments? Because the avatar bothered me. Keep my comments to myself. Everyone, keep your comments to yourself. Thats what makes a real good forum. Keep talking. I think your actually thinking your winning something here. Your a bag and I wish you all the bad in the world.

Yes, idiotic comments. No, I'm not talking about your dislike of my avatar. What I'm talking about is your calling me a dipshit because I defended it.

You're right though. This would be a real good forum without you here.

I'm not looking to win. I'm looking for you to show some respect.

Next time you don't agree with someone else's avatar / sig, use the PM feature. Please.

Don't make me close this thread :(

Lets get back on track, shall we?

Roger that Ryan. This is a great story from a from a time of countless great stories. It is amazing to read about Iwo and the way that the Marines had to fight for every foot of the island. That flag went up on the 5th or 6th day of the battle and the G.I.'s thought that they must be almost through. It was more than a month later when the island was finnally secured. Some other Pacific Theatre battles to read about are Tarawa, Peleliu, and the defense of Corregidor. James Bradley is right: these battles were won by boys. His father was wrong though: the guys who came back and the guys who did not are ALL Hero's.

I have to say that just because the games we discuss here have to do with killing each other, it doesn't make it right to use that to justify other things that may be wrong or in bad taste.

Making an argument for something that may be wrong by pointing to something else that may be wrong is a fruitless argument.

Your story was nice. Your avatar was offensive to someone. Your understanding of that persons feelings was MIA. That persons inability to talk to you in a rational and respectfull manner was the last ingredient in a seriously negative thread.

What's sad is that some of you feel the need to keep this stirred up.

I wasn't trying to make it right, I was trying to get my point across.

Making an argument for something that may be wrong by pointing to something else that may be wrong is a fruitless argument.

Yeah, 2 wrongs don't make a right.....but the point is who are you to say that I'm wrong?

Your story was nice. Your avatar was offensive to someone. Your understanding of that persons feelings was MIA. That persons inability to talk to you in a rational and respectfull manner was the last ingredient in a seriously negative thread.

You know I understand where you're coming from. The problem is that I don't believe it's offensive and the majority of those who have posted in this thread don't find it offensive. The moderator doesn't find it offensive. Just because someone doesn't agree with something in your post, that doesn't give them to right to start a flame war.

I'm not obligated to be understanding of anyone's feelings here. I choose to be when it's warranted, but the way he handled the matter wasn't deserving of it. If he had PM'd me politely and asked me to remove it, I would have.

I never said your point was wrong. I described both sides with the statement "may be wrong. I also voiced my opinion as I felt. I could say I'm sorry for inputing my two cents, but I'm not.
