vid card - 5900?

Postby Jim0322 » Thu Nov 27, 2003 10:15 am

Anyone use XFX NVIDIA Geforce FX 5900 128MB DDR Video Card?

It is the non-ultra 5900 and is on sale at newegg for $199. It seems like a great deal. Am I missing something? Anyone using any of the 5900 non-ultra cards?

Thanks,
Jim

The NV3X line of video cards has been a huge disappointment. If you are looking to buy a newer video card, go with ATI for now.

For the first time I agree with Jimmy LOL

BestBuy has the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro for $100 cheaper...brining the price to $299.99

the 5900 series is good if you don't like AA/AF, and won't be playing any DX9 games. so...if you want your games to look GOOD, and run FAST, go with ATI, because games such as HL2 (or any DX9 game for that matter) runs considerably slower on Nvidia cards.

Get the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro or 9600XT. Do NOT get the non-pro version.

The 9600XT and the 9800XT are the only ones with Half-Life 2 vouchers.

what's all this :( :( :( :( about?? ;)

dude, you're sporting a 9800pro, you have nothing to be sad about :D

you're part of a small percentage of the soon to be millions of HL2 players that will have the ability to run the game at high resolutions with lots of AA/AF

I think I might get one before that game comes out.

Actually, from the 9600 pro and up, are now supposed to come with a free HL2 game like the XT's do.

Might still be trickling their way outta the wharehouses and such. I grabbed my 9800pro like 1-2mo ago, and no dice. I check the boxes periodically at work, in case they did show up, but I've yet to see 'em on any box except the 9800XT (since the 9600XT's still aren't in stock). I work at Best Buy BTW.......

PS. Shockwave, I've not quite finished testing, but I currently run 425/380 right now, with temp at load being around 34-36C!! (I did the 1U cooler mod, with AS5. Next in line is the volt mods!)

I wasn't brave enough to try a volt mod on my 9700 :(

but when I buy a 9800 later on, i'll see what I can do with the pencil trick. I'm too lazy to go out and buy things, a pencil will do just nicely lol

if i blow it, i blow it, i'll have my 9800 to back me up

u really going to voltmod your card?
