ie46bin.exe McAffee prompt?

I was browsing my C:\ drive looking for a certain game file and I got a McAffee prompt about an infected file "ie46bin.exe" I cannot quarintine clean or even delete this file. Aside from the annoying popup whenever I bring up my C:\ drive there doesn't appear to be any real damage to my PC

I would like to know how I could delete this file, when I click the delete button it says something about media access rights, and when I try to manually remove the file it gives me an access denied pop-up.

dont have a clue what that file is but...restarting in safe mode with minimal drivers and such will prolly let you delete it...if not then start in dos and see if you can delete it

I am running windows XP, I am not aware of any safemode thing... is this an important file?



I do know of a command prompt the path to the file is C:\ie46bin.exe what would I type into the commant prompt to remove it?

I found the same question on a german website by searching Google for the file. The advice there was to start in safe mode and run Adaware to remove it.

To start Windows XP in Safe mode, single operating system:
Use this method if XP is the only operating system installed on your computer.

Start Windows, or if it is running, shut Windows down, and then turn off the computer.
Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening.
As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.

Kurith, i don't know if you are using it or not but the best
free anti spyware program i have found is Spybot search
and destroy. http://www.safer-networking.org/
i use to use adaware but after running spybot it found things
that adaware missed.

I use Spybot, never had a problem.

I'll add 2 others worth using. SpywareGuard and Spyware blaster from Wilderssecurity.com Wilders stuff can even block shockwave popups.

And if you use user Work PC for personal stuff as i do
MRU blaster (most recently used) also from Wilderssecurity.com can be setup to constantly clean your Docs and internet cache in the background. I have mine for every 15mins.... Last thing i want is to show someone from another dept info from the internet and have that ECGN Babe post pop up!

I use all of these together. However kill MRU while playing battlefield or you get a stutter durring its purge.

I use both spybot and adaware, one will always miss somethings the other detects. Using them both makes sure everything is detected.
