News from VE3d.com:

It has been announced on the official Ubisoft forums that there will be a closed beta test for the lovely-looking Far Cry in the near future. Sign-ups will begin at some point next week, and only a handful of applicants will be accepted.

More info on Far Cry can be found here, while news of the sign-ups will first be broken here.

Beta Testers are the first to test a game out. They report bugs, problems, comments, concerns, etc. Beta testers get the game before everyone else
