What's your digital camera?

With Christmas over and all the after holiday sales coming up, I finally going to get myself a DC. It's a zoo out there trying to figure out what to buy and how much to spend. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have sort of decided on the following specifications:

The sweet spot now seems to be around 3 mega pixels for $250.00 to $350.00. Some sights recommend getting a camera with better zoom then the standard 3X zoom. Look for a 6X to 10X zoom.

What do you'se guy's think. Is 3X enough. I'm not really much of a camera buff, just a few scenery shots etc. Ideally I could buy a camera that would take my 35 Nikor lenses, but man are they expensive.

So what do you have? Are you happy with it? What would you do different? Spend more, spend less?

3mp should be your minimum if you plan to print out pictures. i've never had much of a need for higher than 3x zoom but it depends on your subjects. remember to budget for an extra memory card and possibly another battery.

i am partial to canons for quality and the pentax optio s (probably too small at your age ) for its ridiculous size.

Here is what have.

It's great for me. There are so many cameras out there though, with what seems to be very little differences between models. It's mostly how small do you want the camera to be and what quality to you want the images to be. Everything else doesn't seem quite as important.

Its a 2.1 megapixel, but thats all I need. The picture quality is pretty damn nice, and I have 0 complaints about the camera. Decent battery life, and at the time it first came out, it was the smallest 2 megapixel camera on the market. Im satasified

this is what I have here It was a gift and i love it very small and nice looking camera pictures are very good as well. here is a picture of my office server room soory it's huge but i didn't resize it so you see the quality of the picture, i think there is a setting for a little high quality but this is fine for me

holy smokes!! i have never seen cable clustered so nicely...if i could only show this to my company so maybe they'll put in the extra effort..

and... omg..is that WinNT i see STILL running there!! LOL.. a blast from the past - but heck, my company still doesnt have a native Windows 2000 domain YET!!

I got a canon A60 2mp almost a year ago. Photography is a hobby of mine, so I wanted a digital with manual controls as well as automatic. Unfortunately, the manual setup is so hard and slow I never use it. Printing a 4x6 picuture looks nice, but you can see some grainy-ness, and it's definately not as sharp as my slr. They're still nice pics though. Having a 2mp, I'd suggest you go for 3 (or more).
Definately plan on spending more on the memory card and rechargable batteries too.

Also, I've also been having trouble with it giving me error messages when I turn it off.

I have a Canon S-40. Its a 4Megapixel comact unit. Fairly small. Not quite pocket size though. Takes fantastic pictures. Even if sent off for 8x10 prints. (I don't have a printer). I like it. Its about a year and a half old now. I think they have an updated model called the S-45 now using the newer Canon G3 CCD.

I always take my pictures at the highest setting then resample them for email or other uses. You can't make a picture a higher resolution so have enough up front. If all you are going to do is regular snapshots then 3MP is probably enough. I am not an expert in this by any means though.

You know the old saying. Too much horsepower is just about right. :-)

Little more expensive then I wanted to pay and then its another $60.00 or so for a 256MB card, but kinda-neat. Reviews say this camera has a major problem with red-eye. I know that most software have red-eye reduction capabilities. Do these for the most part work okay? If you get a chance look at the spec's and see if you can find any shortcomings.
