Do you believe in god?

I'm agnostic. I don't believe in a "god" per se, and I have no rituals that I perform. I do like to think there is something out there though, looking over us, or at least something that set all this crap in motion.

My parents are Lutherans though, so I do still hold some all American Protestant Christian values. Go me.

I believe in God. I am Catholic Christian. I also believe that most modern religions are worshipping the same god. They just have a different name for God and have different views and beliefs about what God is like. This includes polytheistic religions. I believe each of their gods are just names they give for specific characteristics of one whole God.

To those who think they can explain everything through science...please tell me where science came from?;)

Through experimentations, haha jk. Yes you are right about all the religions being pretty much the same. But some religions cause war as most of us know.

Well Wairudo, I think thats a sensitive question for people who believe in God and Jesus. Believe me, I asked that kind of questions a hundred times, and people are not really thankfull when you ask something like that

But no, I don't believe in God. I do believe that there is more between Heaven and Earth. So things we can't explain with science.
But like it has allready been said: people need a religion to explain things, where we came from (adam & eva), and how earth is created ( god created everything in 6 days). And I respect them.

I agree with that. FOr those of you that DONT, look at the history of the Catholic church, a LONG time ago.

The church murdered people, and did a lot of bad things, to stay in power.

thats because the church's leaders are human. Since humans have free will, they can and will make poor choices.
Thus the church was corrupted during certain periods.

that is wrong. Do you even know how Christianity started? If fear was part of the equation, the catholic church would have either died out or never started in the first place. The early christians were persecuted and killed. If they were afraid, they would have disowned their religion instead of dieing for it.

Why does it always come back to Christianity?

Fear has nothing to do with losing faith. Fear of not understanding something(life itself) drives people to faith, as that answers something they can not grasp without an answer.

Native Americans saw a luner eclipse one day. They shit themselves in fear. Guess what? A God was born, who's specific purpose was eating the moon, then spitting it back out.

The one thing that never dawns on people is if God is so beyond us, he would have no need to create beings to worship him, as that shows his need of envy, something he is supposed to be free from.

Yes, I believe in a God, No I do not believe in religions specifically because they ARE lead by humans. Imperfect humans. I respect religions though because there is so much history behind it, and I find it interesting just as I find Greek Mythology very interesting. Our minds are not created to be able to factually justify and understand such a subject as a divine universal being because we are imperfect and just a speck in a universe of unimaginable proportions.

This is the way I see my God.

My God is within me and my mind. I create him through my spirituality. Faith in this higher being is what keeps me sane and happy to know that I'm alive and to know that I have had the opportunity to live. I cannot solely justify and live through my own faith in myself because I am human. Thus, I need the faith in knowing that somewhere out there, there is someone or something looking out for me. Still I stick with my prior mention that it's beyond our capabilities to know the true reality.

I think we should close this thread, theres no pint in arguning as noone in the world could ever prove it. No reason getting all worked up about this topic again and fighting over christians and other religions and the catholic church.

you are right, he made a generalization about religion. generalizations are supposed to work for all cases. Christianity is a case that disproves it.

Most People I know that knock religion are people who dont like rules of morality. They just like doing whatever makes them feel good without any spiritual consequences. They think religion is just there to make them feel bad and control their life. That, along with other things, makes it easy for them to dismiss religion and deny existance of a God and an afterlife.
