TA..DA!!!
Enter the conspiracy theorist! (stage left)
Nearly every time you see a news clip of "Mad Cow" Disease, did they show you a lump of meat on a table, or was it a cow that could hardly walk? Hmmm?
It was the cow wasn't it? So the media does hype things, this will always happen when they compete for rateings instead of quality and accuracy of news.
When a farmer found a cow like this, before accurate tracking, it's a safe bet he'd kill and burn it. Would you risk the authorities burning your life and no one wanting any produce from you?
Perhaps today, you might. The world is now more aware of the seriousness of this situation. Beef tracking requires us to use an international standard, so import/export is universal.
The first battles that have been faught were against ingnorance and complacency.Hard lessons have been taught, if they have also been learned, then there is hope.
Now, who's up for a game of BF1942?

Actually, it was usually a safe bet that the animal would still be slaughtered and the meat still used. Profits must be maximized.
The media usually does hype things up to a tremendous degree. However, the reporting that I've been seeing has been disturbing so far. It has been almost downplaying the situation in many cases. I've seen far more people from the beef industry giving advice on why all the beef is safe to eat than I've seen unbiased physicians or researchers giving their take. Seems like the primary emphasis has been on saving the cattle industry. If this is an isolated case, then that emphasis is justified. If not...
