movie sounds like it's gonna be good.

The New York Post has published this new photo of Brad Pitt as Achilles in Wolfgang Petersen's epic Troy, due out on May 14. In the Warner Bros. film, Achilles alone stands as the key to victory or defeat over Troy. Arrogant, rebellious and seemingly invincible, Achilles has no allegiance to anyone or anything, save his own glory. It is his insatiable hunger for eternal renown that leads him to attack the gates of Troy under Agamemnon's banner — but it will be love that ultimately decides his fate.

Favorite line from one of his movies... Fight Club

But what will probably make this a good movie is the director... wolfgang peterson doesn't make bad movies, with Das Boot and Air Force One among his credits...

Gotta agree with the Chac-Man. Air Force One was so over-the-top that I couldn't enjoy it.

The prez must've had one helluva a nice suit for it to withstand a plane-to-plane transfer and not be shredded.

All star cast for this one, Peter O'Toole, Orlando Bloom, Sean Bean, Eric Bana. Dunno if that'll make it any better. I'm most looking forward to Bean as Odysseus, since the character is slightly different than Boromir, althought just slightly. So I wonder if he'll pull off another amazing performace and still bring something new.

I really just wonder how much they'll stick to the original poem. . . since the war lasts like 12 years, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, but AF1 wasn't BAD, it was at least entertaining... it wasn't "Gigli" or anything... and he's done some others, I just couldn't think of them... let me see.... IMDB says... hmm, not as much as I thought... "In the Line of Fire" was good...

I guess I was getting him confused with John McTiernan, who made Predator, Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October, and The Thomas Crown Affair... along with Buli's movie (Thirteenth Warrior)... some of my favorite action movies

Hopefully, with the example set by Peter Jackson with LOTR, movies in general will start to show that level of effort and attention to detail... Hollywood always tries to copy a winner...

Believe it or not, there have been directors before Jackson that exceed his level of effort and attention to detail. If anything, he is a 'copier.'

You guys should take a look at his first movies, specifically "Bad Taste" and "Dead Alive". For a couple of B movies, they're extremely well-made, and the man did the majority of the special affects himself.

Speaking of trilogies, think Troy will spawn "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey"? Hmmm.

If you're referring to the animated version of Fellowship... I've heard that before, but I haven't seen it in so long, I don't know... it's never on cable, and I don't feel like buying it, so I really don't care enough to find out...

There's a fine line between "I copied that" and "I was inspired by that", however...

And it's not that PJ's perfect either... the battle of helm's deep for instance... when the order is given to shoot the arrows, they say "Fire!" instead of "Loose!"... Fire! didn't come into use until the widespread use of firearms... a small thing, but Braveheart got it right... nobody is perfect...

You're correct. It was absolutely entertaining but I'm one of those who sometimes has his movie experience ruined by unbelievable action sequences.

I really thought Armageddon was BAD (heresy to some) because of the space shuttle "action" sequences. Shuttles maneuvering like F-15s (PLEASE!!!!) and rovers jumping over giant chasms without incurring any damage.

Anyhow.....I digress.

I loved Mel in Braveheart (my alltime favorite movie now) but I wasn't all that impressed with We Were Soldiers or Patriot. I just had a hard time accepting Mel Gibson as a crusty American Army officer.

Actually, Gibson nailed Lt. Col. Moore, the actual person.

We Were Soldiers is a very good adaption of what happened during that battle(of course slimmed down to fit a movie).

I highly suggest picking up the book if you have not read it.
