ECGN Meetup Discussion

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Are you interested in a get-together this summer?

ECGN Summer Meet-up. Better to start early. *Discuss*

Postby Buliwyf » Mon Jan 05, 2004 5:04 pm

Hey gang,

Last time we had a discussion on ECGN regulars meeting up, everyone was pretty much all for it, but there was not enough time in the organization. I figured with it being Winter we could toss around ideas on a place to meet, and have plenty of time to book it etc etc.

What do you all think?

Of course, someplace central would be ideal :P St. Louis would work, what about Kansas City though? I mean home of the KC Chiefs, or home of the St. Louis...er, does that LAME town even HAVE a football team? Anyway, KC is a sure bet!

How about Labrador City, in Canada

Look for it on the map... it's a tad bit cold and my folks and friends would be kinda freaked out seeing me hang around people twice my age, but I guess we can do it :D

Well, central is nice (for some, including me) but you'll have the best turn-out, I suspect, if you find a place located within 100 miles (or so) of the majority of your users. We started that map based upon people's location. Can't we use that to pinpoint a location? I'm all for this and would definitely fork-out some cash to meet-up with all of you.

I'm sure with a big-enough turn-out on the right weekend, we could get a group discount at some decent hotel.

Ya, most likely would be in the VA area I am betting. Which is why I am giving everyone more then ample time to plan or save up :)

Sounds fun but I'm betting it will not be near enough for me or Devil Dog to attend.

I would say that DC would be an excellent place to meet. Plenty to do, some BF significance, pretty central (I can drive there ;) ).

For the hell of it, I went and dug up the map on the thread we were using to determine where we're all from. I know it doesn't have everyone on it, but it's a start.

East coast in the hizzouse!

Although it would seem practical to choose a location geographically suitable for the users, you should also take into account the following:

Travel costs (i.e. airfare is cheaper to certain cities than it is others)
Lodging costs (same as travel costs)
Availability/suitability of location, meaning is everyone gonna hang out in a park somewhere, or are we gonna rent out a movie theatre or what?

With those in mind, my vote goes to Las Vegas. There are always airfare/lodging deals to Vegas, the hotels are cheap, and there's plenty to do.

Sneakin around planning this while I was recuperating were ya Buli?!?!?

HAH!!! Well I have returned!!!

While I know the location is still up in the air, there has yet to be any discussion about the TIME of the event. Just as crucial as the location for some of us.

BTW I live in the Florida panhandle near Pensacola.

Heh, Vegas sounds cool to me (folks have a time share there). But in all honesty we would probably be better served looking for some place around the east, allow as many to perhaps drive out and back again.
