What massive price? The 3200+ costs $270, and beats out the P4 3.0C which costs $275. The FX-5* chips are indeed extremely high-priced though. The socket 754 prices will take a major drop when the 939's are released, and likley will still be able to hang very close in performance. The Newcastle 64's will be at 2.8ghz by Q4 2004 and I doubt any of you will be able to turn them down in favor of a 32-bit chip.

Once again what use is having all that power if there is nothing to use it?
The 64 bit "revolution" will be software driven. You can build kickass roads but until you have something better than a Ford Model T the road ain't worth that much now is it?

I don't think any current or soon-to-be A64 users are looking for a "64-bit revolution," just a great performing system. It just so happens that they are the most logical choice. You obviously aren't looking at the whole picture here.

ATW you point is there is not much extra cost and there is a boost in 32 bit software.
For many of the tests, the performance gain is not much at all.
There is a $70.00 difference between the XP3200 and A643200. Of course, that is before the cost of a new motherboard. The full featured boards go from $125 to $185.
