Better Business Bureau

Postby Jim0322 » Thu Jan 22, 2004 2:11 pm

I posted the paragraph below as a reply to another thread in the BF forum but thought it might be helpful to everyone. Getting the cheapest price is not always a good idea. How much grief is $5-10 worth?

Be careful with companies you know nothing about. You might find the cheapest price through pricewatch but the company might burn you. I had a bad experience with http://www.alvio.com a few years ago. It was resolved but the experience convinced me never to order anything from them again. Had I checked the Better Business Bureau before I ordered I would have seen they had many complaints against them. (I did not check until the problem arose) Check out http://www.bbb.org any time you are going to do business with a company you know nothing about.

I like that site! It is much easier/more informative to use than the BBB site.

Reseller Ratings is really where its at. Read real reviews, etc.

And gotta love reading up on Best Buy / CompUSSR.. err.. USA. NewEgg, SVC, etc, all have great ratings, and for good reasoning. They rock!

Alvio corp. http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2029.html They have a 4.58 rating.

It looks like I am not the only one who did not like them.

BBB is a joke. I have 3 complaints against my family business, all from people who are stuck up and expect the world when they snap their fingers. One returned a beddign set over the 30 day return policy, and heavily damaged by her cats(she claimed it was flawed), because of her, that is one complaint, which is in no way our fault.

I always order from Newegg. I used to use pricewatch a lot to find the lowest price, but then I always worried about reliability, packing, shipping, etc.

Newegg may not be the cheapest on everything ( 10-15 more depending on the item ) but they are sure as shit reliable and I have never once had a problem with anything purchased through them.

Yeah, use pricewatch to find cheap places, then resellerratings to see if they're worth a damn....and you'll usually end up withing $5 of newegg's prices to get a company that isn't dirt.....
