I've had this set up for about six months now (the longest) I've gone before upgrading it realy can be a sickness.

This seems like an appropriate forum for this question.

What is the current top of the line video card? This isn't a test. I really don't know and am thinking about upgrading from a GeForce2.

get either a ati radeon 9700 pro or wait a few weeks for the nvidia geforce fx. you will be happy with either one.

Or you can get a nice GF4 4200 and overclock it- the ABIT version w/ OTES overclocks very nice, and the card can be had for less than $130. If you're on a budget, it's an awesome option. You can pay 3 times more for another card- but why? Buy this now, buy another one later when this gets slower- you'll spend less, and have a faster card 'most of the time'.

that is another viable option. in fact that is what i am doing right now. i have my ti 4200 overclocked to 311 on the core and 580 on the memory. but since he asked for the best card/top of the line, i suggested the 9700 pro or the fx.

Has anyone tried overclocking the Ti 4600? cause thats probabily what I will be getting somewhere in the range of six months tops.

from what ive seen at madonion.com, you can overclock a ti 4600, but not by too much. you can get like 30mhz on the core and like 50-75 mhz on the memory.

DONT get an FX. Overpriced and literally sounds like a rocket engine when the fan gets going.

Just buy a nice ti 4200. Even if you dont OC it, its a DAMN good card for the money.

ok, umm still why wouldn't it be better to get the 4600, I have a friend that has his heart set on an FX so I'm not stopping him, he's gonna sell me his Ti4600 for under 100 he told me, he's a good friend so I trust him. anyways price aside an overclocked 4600 would definatly beat the 4200, but thank you for imput, tell me I'm wrong if you can, constuctive critism is what I'm after.

All the reviews of the FX so far place it BARELY above the Radeon 9700, and with that 400 dollar price tag, it just isnt worth it.

If hes got his heart set on it, hes gonna be disappointed.

It's still a good 60-70 bucks between the ti 4200 and ti 4600, up to you.

how is the fx overpriced? it isnt even out yet and the regular version is costs 299. hell the 9700 pro is still 250 and its been out for like 6 months. the fx ultra is going to be 399.

those tested fxs dont have proper drivers as of yet. also,the fx is a direct x 9 card, but it hasnt even even been benchmarked as a direct x 9 card yet. I love how people jump to conclusions about products before they have seen the results from a complete and final version.( by this i mean with solid drivers and a direct x 9 benchmark.) I have heard they are noisy, which would defeat the purpose of your watercooling mmmgood, so i can understand you on that comment.
