What are you using in your system?

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

directx 8 comparsions of 9700 pro and fx. fx beats out 9700 pro in every category, and it is using pre release drivers. while the 9700 pro has had 6 months to refine its drivers.

Ok well with those compairisons I'm sure my friend will be going for the Geforce Fx, I should be able to acquire the Ti4600 for under 100 beans so I'm gonna do that as soon as I can, right now I'm looking at next friday for going into this computer center and getting my Asus Motherboard with P4 2.4 and 1 gig pc 2100 DDR ram, that is all I need I have everything else so if you see me on the beach sometime next saturday and I'm doing better then I usually do (Maybe not score but in general) that will be because outside the building I won't F-ing drop to 9FPs. Thats why I'm doing this whole project in the first place. Then by the end of the summer I should have a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 and a 40gig 7200rpm 8 meg cache Hdd (using 60gb 7200 2meg cache for starters cause its just what I could acquire nicely) Sorry if I talk about my shit too much  CAUSE I'M FLIPPING OUT.:D you would too if you had to use my compaq to play on, what a dog. So ETA: 9 days til completion.:rotflmao: I'm going nuts!

P.S. Thanks Edawg for the compairison, very nice.;)

Here's what the sound of the new GeForce FX sounds like. click on the link and scroll to the mp3 file on this page from Tom's Hardware website http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030127/geforce_fx-06.htmlSounds like a bloody hair dryer or vacuum on steroids. You can read the whole article if you like, but I'm with MMmmgood on this one. Film quality is about 24 frames per second. When these guys talk about anything over 100, 200 , or even now 300 frames per second in Quake III, it becomes mind boggling. But remember this, your eyes probabaly wouldn't see the difference, if a card like ATI's 9700 PRO is doing 130 fps for instance, and the GeForce FX is doing 150 fps. Really thing about it! If you can put these 2 machines side-by-side. I seriously doubt anybody can tell me what's playing faster. I'll tell what you will tell the difference in is your wallet for one. And your ears, I have a MSI Ti4200 64M card and it's nice for perfomance, but when it boots up, it grinds likea my mama's sausage grinder, and when she gets hot, it begins this high pitch whistle that's very annoying. Just my 2 cents !!!!

as far i am concerned, noise doesnt bother me. i already have 6 thermaltake smart fan IIs running in my case. these are arguably the loudest 80mm fans you can get.

That sound would bother me if I wasn't looking at the best graphics possible at the same time.

Most likely sounds like your mothers vacume cleaner, I had 7 case fans, custom setup to cool a asus board and still no satisfaction, I replaced my asus board with a abit and now 3 fans and its ok.......hmmmm....sure do miss my vacume noise....NOT.....

im very satisfied pie. i have my overclocked p4 2.4 @2.7 and i get full load temperatures of 28 degrees celsius. noise doesnt bother me as long as i get performance. Besides i just crank up my speakers when i play.

I have a better solution to the video card heating problem. I open up all my windows, letting the outside temperature come in (currently 14 degrees/5:30pm) and play. The 16mb video card I have never heats up. LOL. But seriously why dont they just build mini airconditioning units for the computers, keep your computer in the fridge.

actually cid, there are a couple companies out there that make cases that essentially refridgerate your system. one company is called prometia, and the other is called vaporchiller or something like that. anyways they are very expensive(somewhere around $800), and are usually used for extreme overclocking.

Thanks Edogg. Hey, does it really make a difference, like are you gonna smoke me with your refrigerated system?

well yeah... as long as you have top notch components and you know how to overclock. with one of those cases you would be able get performance that basic air cooled or water cooled systems wouldnt be able to come close to.

Yeah no kidding, cause not only can you sustain a higher overclock but electronic resistance (if you would) decreases when heat decreasses, so basically your computer would run smoother with that case even without overclocking, not faster but just smoother and calmer in a sence. Damn I need me one of those. lol :D

2 computers for gaming:

1) 933 P3 512K 80 gig SBpro ATI 64 ddr card win 98II

2) 2.53 P4 512k 160 gig SBpro Ati 9700 xp

I actually play more often with P3 machine, both built by friends who own local computer store. Everything picked by me, none of that integrated crap stamped onto motherboards. Asus motherboards and 7200 speed drives.
