Not whining, just wondering....Server Crashes?

Postby Heart Collector » Sat May 01, 2004 7:36 pm

I'm just curious as to why it seems to crash so often? At least 2 or 3 times a day that I'm on, and its allways when I'm having a personal best game or have the docs 5 ft from radio with 2 seconds left or some shit :D

Maybe ECGN should rebuild the server and retire this one? hehe

It needs reboot more often. Sometimes there are so much ppl with high ping and I notice more lag (ping and fps). As Savageparrot says, fewer ppl comes back.

lol server disconnect is great! it gives me a bit of time to get some beers/snakes etc! and like scratch my arse i have been sat on for like 3hours! it can be annoying if you are just about to win or something but it is need for a smoother server! and does it really take so long to click that reconnect button?

It crashes becasue Wolfesntein wasn't originally designed for more than 32 people. The game isn't meant to handle that many players at a time. It's not ECGN's fault at all.

Don't get the game mixed up with the map. Beach wasn't supposed to...

Not many maps were made for 64 player servers, No original maps are except for maybe Depot, but thats pushing it.

The server crashes 3 times a day because that clutz trips over the powercord on his way to breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the ECGN Headquarters. :)

You missed my point. The game was made to support 64 players. You said it wasn't. I said don't get the game mixed up with the map. Beach wasn't meant to, but besides the fact, I do not think it is the cause of the server crashing.

It would seem these are scheduled restarts of the server. On certain systems if a Q3 based server is up too long weird things start to happen. Perhaps a memory leak or something i am not sure. Especially on a server with this much actiivity I think a restart a few times a day is a good thing if for nothing more than stability.
