I think it's weird that last year in the same city as I live in now, I had a ping of about 70- 80. I went away for about a year and came back to the same city, but different side of town and now I ping 100-140. I even ordered the premiere service that Adelphia offers to get a lower ping and still nothing has changed. I live in Colorado btw. :(

Cable is better than DSL for gaming.

Not necessarily. Depends on the provider, and the load on the cable provider.

DSL = direct connex to inet.
Cable = shared with peeps in your 'hood, bigger chance for lag.

I used to have Charter cable...lots of issues with it. Then moved to a Coma$t area and was more stable, but cost a lot. Now I've got DSL and am getting average pings of 170+ :( Hope to switch to cable soon if i can....

Last I heard, satellite was garbage for online gaming. It's just as bad as dial up. Its really only for people that dont have any other options where they live. They may have made some improvements, but I doubt it was anything drastic.
