Harry Canyon's namesake movie

Postby cavalierlwt » Thu Jun 23, 2005 9:28 am

Harry Canyon's namesake movie 'Heavy Metal' is playing on 'Starz' channel lately, I caught it last night at 3:30 AM. Wow, I was really hit with a wave of nostalgia watching it, I think I'll have to go and get the DVD.
For those of you who haven't seen it, check it out sometime. It's one of those movies that's great and horrible all at the same time, but really manages to capture an era. It's an animated movie with a great soundrack, cheesy adolescent male fantasy kind of thing.
Tivo it, rip it off the net, just don't mistake it for that piece of crap 'Heavy Metal 2000'

I think I was like 13 or 14 when I saw it. Me and friend bought tickets to a PG movie at the local multiplex, then snuck over into 'Heavy Metal'
Pure bliss!

Seeing it the other night really brought me back to that time, it was good, yet slightly sad feeling.

Maybe because I'm a child of the 80's or something, but I love that flick. I could watch it time and again. In fact, I have. I used to read Heavy Metal magazine every so often... that's what the movie is based on (the individual stories in the movie were each stories in themselves from the magazine). Thanks for the nostalgia!

"And there's beer... in the fridge... so help yourself."
"I was givin' her the stars and stripes for ever!"
"There was no way I was gonna walk around this place with my dork hanging out!"
"Yeah, yeah... she's the queen... she can do whatever she wants."
"Sorry... sixTEEN inches long."

If you care, you can check out the final draft of the script here (slightly different than what ended up being the movie): http://www.hundland.com/scripts/Heavy-Metal.htm

oh wow, goooood nyborg :)

Yeah, I used to read Heavy Metal magazine once in a while, it was such a cool cross between wierd Sci-Fi and Dungeons and Dragons type of thing. I kinda miss that whole sort of subculture. I don't know if it would called geek, nerd whatever but it was definitely it's own little subculture, long before Geek became chic.
