While I don't have one at the moment. I would definitely recommend the UPS, but make sure that you have a really good Surge protector. I have highly rated surge protectors on all my computers in the house, in the wiring closet and on all tv/entertainment centers.
At some point I will definitely get a UPS. My last one almost melted my carpet, (had to take it out with oven mitts!) but it was not a production unit, it was a beta unit that I had had in service for 5 years. It was definitely worth it. Never had an issue with spikes or brown outs.
In the days of Half-Life 1, I used to host a listen server with my old gaming group. One night the power went out in the neighborhood, but we kept on playing as the PC monitor, cable modem and router were on the UPS. The other players found it funny that the server had stayed online during the 12 minute outage, I believe that Hunter/Killer had been on that night. If you area has power issues, the UPS will clean it up. After all isn't your gaming pc the one thing you should protect?...

I work for APC so I have a bunch of their stuff.
Years ago I used to host a CS server. One night I was playing and the power goes out. No big deal I am pluged into a UPS. We keep playing and after an hour or so the UPS batteries start to get low. I look around and see another UPS so I unplug the first one from the wall and plug it into the next UPS. That one starts to get low so I do it again and again. At the end of the night I had 5 UPS's daisy chained together. The power was out for about 6 hours and the server never went down. Wife and kids were pissed as they could not watch TV or anything put I could play CS!

LOL I remember that night! I kept asking if you wanted me to take up hosting, but you wanted to keep that zero ping thing going for ya!

I am almost 100% sure the surge protector people will not pay as they are protecting against spikes and not brown outs. I had a $1,000 DVD player get hit by lightning a few years ago and they asked me to send in my surge protector with my claim. They ended up not paying the claim due to the fact that the surge protector was not damaged in any way. I lost several other items at the same time in other parts of the house on different systems and ended up making a claim against my home owners insurance.

First, surge protectors are BS. Most are MOV based. MOV's die over time, each surge slowl destroy's it.
There are few good brands. monster is a piece of shit and if anyone reading this owns one: you got ripped off. They are over priced crap.
http://www.brickwall.com are one of the few that are worth buying and I trust enough to plug my multiple thousands of dollars of home audio equipement into.
